MediumRoastSteam Did you mean count a double as two, a single as one? Anyways - based on the last week’s rough recollection:

30 doubles, no singles (although we went away for a day, so we “missed” some as we got a (not-so-good-but-highly-caffeinated) Turkish at a restaurant).
4.5 litres of water in the machine (3 × 1.5 litre fill-ups - now about half-way through the latest fill)

If you need more precise stats, happy to keep a diary for a couple of weeks.

on an average 6 a day x 7 days = 42 cups of coffee; of these at least 7 brews - single or double is treated as 1 cup.
Teas are excluded
Minimum 10-12 litres of water a day from Osmio Zero. Week ends, it will be about 15 litres a day.

Cuprajake water wise probably 5 litre per week based on your usage and the odd cleaning flush.

Caste Iron Honduras Don Pancho - Very nice cup.

Medium light. The tasting notes are Raspberry Jam, Prosecco and passion fruit.

18.3g, 40.7g out, 54s. I had set the temp at 93C for the group and 99C for the brew to moderate the acidity.

Prosecco comes out on top. The fruity acidity is Passion Fruit. Considering the acidity, I can’t pick any raspberry.
The spent puck showed some uneven extraction as the shot time was way too long. I need to loosen the grind, although the cup was clean, smooth and pleasant to drink.

yeah i got on better with this, than the other i got from them thats for sure, mrs seemed ok with the espresso blend too

Cuprajake That’s consistent with this bag so far. What was your temp settings for this?

The Mandela Hybrid is noted as a very light roast, which is a joke. It is between medium light and medium roasts. I will generously label it as a medium light. I vac-ed it today and yet to brew or a pull a shot off this Mandela.

I bought this because it is a very light roast. Any way, not end of the world. :-)

Hmmm… I’d say it’s a light roast by the looks of it compared to “light” roasts I had in the past. Granted hard to judge. Would you expect a light roast to be more like a cinnamon colour?

The best way to asses colour with the naked eye is to compare the colour of ground coffee under a white light - it’s very hard to judge by the colour of the bean.

How do they taste?

The colour of the beans can be misleading. Is it fair if I expect the chaff lines to remain tightly packed than and lighter in colour than this? To me at least, the chaff lines / chaff skins have darker appearance. I think this has gone through the first crack and may have been dropped soon after that. It’s well roasted though.

I have been seen a few light roasts from Casuals, Crank House and Blackcat. I kind of get an idea.

This is hybrid process - washed with extended fermentation. No idea what it means as they don’t provide the details. This may have an impact on the colour of the beans itself?

Castiron - Don Pancho

What’s wrong with this shot ?

There is no change in routine - Grind, WDT, tamp and pull shots. The shot goes pretty watery during the last 10s. The spent puck doesn’t show any signs of uneven extraction. I just don’t see how I can improve the puck prep further.

For the record, 18.2g, 36.7g out, 30s and 93c/99c. Very nice as black and flat white. With milk, it’s very sweet with plenty of nutty and vanilla flavours

IMO, depending on the roast level and bean origin, this is just normal. It happens with me with Kenyan beans. The naked portafilter extraction looks horrendous, but, in the cup, it’s fantastic. A topic of many conversations with @HVL87!

My advice to you is… don’t judge a book by its cover. (Replace terms accordingly). If it tastes good, happy days.

Also don’t forget your machine can only operate within a certain range of parameters. While you can do wonders with temperature, there isn’t a lot you can do with the pre-infusion pressure or extraction profile pressure.

You could try without pre-infusion, or retard the lever in order to decline the pressure and see how it goes.
