boshk how about heat retention? does it make a difference?

I would imagine it makes very little difference, because the Evo has ventilation slots across the bottom of the machine and ventilated cover on the top of the machine. This means that there is a continual airflow from bottom to top to take excess heat away.

I was trying to tone down the pump tbf

But it gives the panels a thud rather than a tink

    Hello,

Hope all is well. I feel i have been away for a long time now but i was enjoying more of the offline life and enjoying simple old fashioned coffee convos…

I came across an issue and would love to hear some thoughts …

So, after my machine heated up steam started to come out and i thought the opv is working but it never stopped. I took the top off and noticed the t-joint is leaking and thus the water kept filling but than I turned the steam boiler off and I started to hear some dripping noise in the back of the machine with some water under it and i suspect a leak that is causing the system to fail to reach equilibrium. Please share your thoughts i will look over them tomorrow ( because if I started now I know i will never sleep.

    Cheers

I can’t see a leak, when you say it’s leaking at the T fitting, do you mean here?

      The problem is…

      1. Steam started to come out, could be a leaking joint
      2. Steam started to come out, could be a leaky vacuum breaker
      3. OPV (Expansion Valve) is nothing to do with the problem, it has a different function.
      4. The water kept filling, this is an odd one, a small leak wouldn’t make the pump keep running? If it did the boiler would become completely full. Are you sure the pump continually runs? If it does: The pump could be airlocked, feed tube kinked, or some other problem (in other words, you might have 2 problems)
      5. The leak could be from the fitting, it could be from condensed steam, If the leak was causing the pump to keep running, you would have a large pool of water on the counter (and probably the floor).

More specific information is required….so we can help you.

Not sure on the drip tray

I’d love to strip the machine and do the front panel, but that’s loads of work

That is the style I have chosen for my Vostok.
I’ll get the timber sides but hopefully can remove them for a cleaner look when I want it.

That looks great! I really like the chrome front and three sides black like you have. I think the contrast is really spectacular. Once again nice work.

To be honest, I’m not fond the side aspect of the EVO with the line of the side panel and the drip tray.
It has always appeared to “sag” to my eye.
The contrast of the black side and SS drip tray breaks up that relationship and looks really good.

The door on the Evo has always been a bugbear of mine, I really hate the door,

I’d much prefer a top fill.

I presume the newer machines with the new rail have a better side,

The new rail goes the full length of the machine

Just get the rail kit. It stabelizes the machine and aligns the tray better. And greatly reduces the flex.

Do we have any guidance on the service intervals for greasing the piston? I read through the faq and i just saw there were 2 methods mentioned for performing the service but I didn’t see a recommendation like ‘ this should be done every x months or n shots’. I wanted to be proactive on the service so I figured i’d ask here for others experience with it.

LMSC Thanks for the input. I kind of had a gut feeling i’d do it every 6 months.
