No, usually good grinder and coffee helps a lot to reduce squirters.

1.5 Month old Lavazza Super Crema must be very forgiving.

If you guys could only see the workflow my wife has (a former barista too). Tamp in the air with the coffee grounds on a slant. No mess.

I'll assume my next bag of non-Lavazza will be more highlighting of our errors.

What kind of peak pressure and shot volumes are you getting with the safety lever installed?

9.5 Bar peak (as measured digitally and not gauge on front)
7.3 Bar Finish.
17g in, 33g out
5-15s pre infusion.
15-35s brew

You get higher peak with the standard sleeve,

But it's not much more.

Wether it's worth it who knows haha

I can imagine it would be just about impossible to get a real side by side comparison, though manually assisting the lever with a standard sleeve to 9.5 bar peak pressure would be close enough. With all of the possible variations in pressure, bean, basket, grinder, tamp, phases of the moon… I wonder how much of this comes down to confirmation bias. Clearly, my espresso will come down to the type of wood I use in the handles.

Hi guys, writing in for some advice regarding a pump and pressure situation i'm currently having with my Evo Leva.

I left town for 2 weeks and i turned the machine off. Today I came back and the machine pump seems to have issues trying to draw water from the reservoir where it cannot maintain a continuous draw of water from the reservoir.

I wrote in to ACS and they told me that:

"the pump sucks water, but the pressure seems to be too low. We suggest to adjust the pressure switch, try to turn a little the small screw in the center of the pressure switch obviously towards the + and turn it ¼ turn at a time. Without the portafilter the pump must always throw water continuously from the group, not intermittently as now."

I'm wondering is this the pressure switch? And is the screw they're referring to in Yellow or in Blue highlights?

bradliew Firstly, try not to slam that lever down hard if you can…it's just not nice 😉

The screw you want to adjust is the centre yellow one, turn it towards plus to increase the pressure.

The blue one is the dead band and you don't want to be adjusting that unless there is a specific need…the dead band also doesn't like being adjusted to often. Deadband is the same as hysteresis and will make your pump pulse too often if you lower it and less often if you raise it.

Admin Hi Dave! Thank you so much for the advice! Actually i think the impact sound is a lot more dramatic on video than it was in person hahaha! But yes, much more gentle on my end of the next one!

I'll attempt the yellow center one and see if it works.

Yesterday i unfortunately fiddled a little with the blue one (the dead band). Is there something I should try and target to get it back to the proper tuning?

Dunno, depends on how much you fiddled, do the centre one first then see how the machine is behaving after that. Don't adjust by too much each time, just 1/4 turn.

Hi, long time reader here as well.

Attached is the behavior of my pump during preinfusion. I tried adjusting the dead band in 1/4 turns towards plus, doesn't change anything. I reached out to ACS. They say this is normal and that the speed with which it reaches 2bar depends entirely on coffee and grind. I disagree with this. What do more experienced users think? Am I in the wrong here? I would like a faster flow and a more efficient pre infusion. They also advised I switch to the electronic preinfusion. I don't want to do that, as I would rather spend $400 on other coffee things instead of that.

Your grind is too coarse and your shot too fast. So building to 2 bar will take longer and you will get more pulses. If you really did adjust the "deadband" the off centre screw rather than the centre screw and turned it towards plus, this will actually make it worse and increase time between pump pulses. So you should try and move it back to where it was.

if you changed the centre screw, which is the pressure at which the pressure stat stops the pump to increase preinfusion pressure, that might help a little, but the effect will not be massive as the space above the coffee needs to fill and the speed of that is not really impacted by pi pressure at that point.

Admin Hi Dave, I adjusted the center screw.

1) first part before adjustment: the machine now with the intermittent flow

2) I adjusted the center screw clockwise by 1/4 turn

3) after the adjustment, now no water comes out.

I wonder if this is a deadband combo thing that needs to be adjusted in tandem.

LMSC WHOPPS! Yes I just noticed this as well. My mistake.

I went the correct way now and tried this rotation multiple times. But its still with the same problem of the intermittent water coming out.

I tried to further rotate it the right way to increase the pressure the 1/4 turns about 13 times (more than 3 full rotations now). And its the same issue with the pump. I just stopped for now as I'm worried if something might happen if i keep turning the screw to increase the pressure.

do you have any blocked pipes? that doesnt sound right and tou should have alot more water,

how does the pump sound if you drain a load of water out the steam boiler? on refill
