There she is! Arrived yesterday in a very nice transport box.

Love it already although it is a bit intimidating coming from a Rancilio Silvia. The first 2 shots were already quite nice and can’t wait to explore all the possibilities. Love the accessories as well!

I recently had a shelf put up for the Evo. This now gives me some bench space in the kitchen. The wood is scaffolding boards that have been sanded and stained. I have. shelf to go above it. Whether or not it will ever get the go ahead is another matter though!

I also have a limited addition Pink Floyd poster, but at the moment, my wife says non! It is the words to Dark side of the moon, mine is number 16 I think!

Ando it doesn’t have the safety feature but it does have the release on pressure or time which works great!

Currently using auto end @ pressure. Don’t really think I will use @time

If you have chocke it and want to end early you can hit the stop button.

Adrianmsmith which button is it exactly? Since you have the manual option but with the option to use the EV, I was wondering how it works.

Edit: I only just now saw that the middle button also states “stop”. So I guess that’s the one.

Water dripping through the shower screen!

This is after the machine is up and running for more than an hour and at least 30 mins after a shot was pulled.

The piston is due for re-greasing. Should I change the piston gasket too? We never had to swap the gasket, considering the usage.

Is it just condensation.

Not sure piston gasket would help as it’s above the water inlet unless you are thinking it’s bypassing during the last shot and slowly finding it’s way back through afterwards.

How much volume are you talking, is it an issue or an observation 🫣

Normal, the piston seal (gasket) is above the water inlet to the group, so cannot be the cause. leave the gasket alone, they last 2 years in commercial use….so will probably last longer in the home. I think the first Evos are 3 years old now and to my knowledge none of them have needed a piston gasket yet through wear/ageing…unless a gasket was faulty..

How warm the machine has nothing to do with anything, as I said before they are an open chamber design…pull a shot, chamber is full of water…this eventually comes out into the portafilter and sits in there.,…with the odd drip coming out.

It’s not dripping continuously is it? If it is doing it all the time, or if you leave it running for 1 hour, dry the portafilter and then put the portafilter back (don’t pull any shots). If it starts dripping again, the valve in the group might need cleaning or a seal replaced (unlikely as they tend to last 7 years or more in commercial environments). If you are looking for something to do….try the experiment

If I remove the PF, I can see water drops seeping through the shower screen edges.

Although I haven’t measured or timed it, a drop probably every couple of minutes. I would not expect the excess to continue dripping 30 mins - 1 hour past the shot had been pulled. I will try and run longer than a couple of hours next time and see.

I was wondering what other leva owners have as a cleaning and maintenance cycle.

I was thinking of the following for cleaning:

Backflush - everyday

Backflush with detergent- once a month.

Any thing missing?

Descaling? I use filtered water from a BWT jug.

And maintenance I think when something seems to change?

Curious what you all do.

@Blackbirdman It’s an open chamber group (inner stainless sleeve with a space in between it and the outer part of the group), so it will drip as the water in it expands on heating. It’s by design.

Place a receptacle under the drips and weigh the contents after a period of time.

I’ve actually posted this explanation many many times in various forms. If it wasn’t designed to drip as the water expands, the seals would burst on the sleeve. Remembering, it used to be an HX/dipper design.

The morning instant seems like a one-off. I ran the machine the entire afternoon. Both the bowl to collect the drops and the PF were drier.
