gus6464 I tend to agree with this. Touted as San Marco and now seems to be a cheaper imitation. The innovations re temp are great and it pulls fantastic shots but there have been a number of frustrations/ annoyances. Yet to see any progress on the really unsightly scratches at the top of the lever from ACS (been months now). And mine are not getting any better with time. Quality control has been a bit disappointing with this machine (I have a Vesuvius with no issues) such as C4 capacitor, a disconnected probe on arrival, the scratch top of lever @and a number of issues others have raised. It’s a shame as the unit in perfect condition is superb.

I can for one say its not just acs who have issuses with the lever group as my londinium did the same.

I think this is a alan partridge moment when you’re thinking tannoy, when tannoy is a brand name and you actually mean public address system

The Vesuvius models in the past have suffered transport issues with stuff coming undo, one of the reasons i never pulled the trigger.

A resolution to the scratched group would be nice, i cant understand why they dont use a white teflon/nylon spacer to stop this.

Cuprajake I thought the same about a Teflon spacer. It would be a tight fit though.

The couriers are the worst here. They are irresponsible and haven’t learnt a lesson. I doubt if they will ever! If we have seen the packing of the Evo, it was fantastic. The legs of the crate have consistently disappeared in almost all deliveries.

It is far too complicated as scratches occur in places where washers won’t help. We have had extensive discussions on this, which can be found in this thread.

We have done a simple fix to the solution by loosening the bolt by 0.5 mm - 1 mm besides applying very thin MolyKote in those areas. I haven’t seen any deterioration since then. I would encourage others do the same.

Hopefully, Paolo of ACS will revert with a solution to the issue. He did promise that he will come back, although it’s been a while now.

Cuprajake May have missed this with the 1000 plus replies, but what sort of infusion times are people aiming for on say a medium roast.

Around 10 secs for light - light/medium for me. Shot complete in around 25-30 secs. Find extractions over 30 secs start to lose the brighter fruit notes. Even found shots where I’ve not quite dialled in and the total extraction time has been under 25 secs, say, around 20 secs, have been quite drinkable.

darkstefano no it’s approx 70%. The difference is how close to the bottom the water pipe is, to avoid sucking up crap into the valve.

I never use steam or hot water, anyone think is good idea and is possible to empty the steam boiler and deactivate it from the advanced settings?

Due of some complains, I have to clarify that we never sold machines with lsm group but lsm style group, I don’t think that someone have a single lsm group machine. Every company use different groups lsm use they own group and not sold to anyone else. Our group it’s modified to our requirement and you will find some on the market with some different things. I have to tell you that also lsm professional machinehave the same issue with scratches inside but due of cover it’s not visible, also about the cost it’s more cheap due of finishing that it’s not polished always due of cover, I have to tell you also that some technician in Italy complain that the bumper used to safety reaction if the group it’s used wrongly have different problems after less than 2 years. We have tested the Teflon spacer and it doesn’t work now we are testing a different solution on some machines in production and as soon we will see that the problem with scratches it’s solved we will provide to send the necessary parts to our customers but of course we have to test first also fix the noise problem of the spring. Every modification need test and time to find a right solution. I have to tell you also that our group it’s probably the expensive one on the market and cost about the double of some sold in the UK. We work very hard to try to make a machine as close as possible to the perfection, of course most of parts are made from other companies and often not are very responsive to changes. Also I think that we tray to reply to all the emails of our customers that complain about something wrong considering also that in our machines there are things not common on other machines that are a simple single boiler with flange, pressostat and a different case and in some case with a simple pid. Our point of view it’s always to make a machines with a best result in the cup using some innovative ideas, I would recall the attention of our customers that the standard Vesuvius was the first pressure profile coffee machine for home use and in USA when we sold the first unit to compare with other machines the only way was to test side by side with a La Marzocco Strada 2 groups and the result of this test you can read on a USA forum. For others it’s simple to copy after….. We made with Vostok the first lever machine on the market with dual boiler with reduced the fastest warm up on the market and temp stability, others are tried to copy and in some case the result is not the same even because copying it’s not easy as well. I think it is also worth pointing out, that Vibiemme made the original E61 group. Many years on, there are many manufacturers of the same, but does that mean unless it is a Vibiemme E61, it is not an E61 (if that makes sense)?

dfk41 sorry but the E61 group was made from Faema not vibiemme. There are a lot of copies of this group with different finishing grade different materials on some parts inside and different reability. There is also a Chinese version of course. I want to point out also on the fact that the lever group it’s a niche market inside of a niche market not a lot of companies invest money in that.

i dont think it helps that all this was also done mid global pandemic, its still effecting industry. i was watching a video the other day where a lagom grinder has been put back again :(

While my ACS Evo Leva is not perfect on all fronts, most of the issues I’ve experienced are cosmetic or minor niggles (scratches discussed above, sagging drip tray, spring and pump noise) and I can’think of a better machine for my needs regardless of price (good capacity dual boiler with PIDs, quick warm up, tank operated, possibility to improve on the already very good lever pressure profile, quality parts, simple interface, etc). I can also live with some of the quircks such as the weird PID units. I’m not brand sensitve, so the fact that it only has an LSM ‘style’ group doesn’t matter to me (the features of it, such as the group heaters and its stainless steel internals do matter to me).

It could certainly be improved like anything else (say silent direct plumb in for the few who have a suitable water setup, easy way to drain/descale the boiler, etc)

I think the fact that Paolo is supporting the product via an open forum and looking for solutions for the existing owners is also something rare, and very valuable.

I just shot some photo on a brand new group never used here but for sure tested in the manufacturer company to test it. I think that should be familiar to someone because it’s the same used on some machines and made from the same manufacturer.

Of course it’s not my intention to say if others have the same problem and it’s ok if our have the same issue should be ok otherwise I should say that it’s a typical lever group problem

i think a lot of the issues raised above go for a lot of manufactures,

i can speak from a personal experience of owning 2 londiniums and now the leva

my first 2014 londinium l1 the group was immaculate, even to the day i sold it, the new lr24 had casting marks in the group like above, as does a friends compressa.

not sure what you mean by the pid? the lr24 had the quirk of having to reset the wifi whilst having the side of the machine exposed giving the possibility of a shock.

my drip tray has been fine, i did have to bend the l1 tray when i got that,

i do like the fact that its being discussed out in the open, a lot of ‘smaller’ manufactures, i mean no disrespect by using the word smaller, but some seem to have closed forums, be it machines, or grinders. i dont like that

the end goal should always be whats in cup.

Thanks @Paolo_Cortese for correcting me, but the point remains the same. I am probably very different to most people on here, but I would accept those markings shown in the above photos. It is a working part on the machine and friction happens. Sure, it would be nice to get sorted out but this is a supply problem in a very small market of suppliers

Mine are more like scuff marks but do not affect the pulling of the shot in the slightest. Still 10.5 bar going down to 6 as usual. I’m using it at Farmer’s Markets so pulling quite a few shots. The marks happened almost immediately but haven’t got any worse since. My worry was that over time it would get worse but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

Both are scraping….funny enough the 6 year old group on the alpha is unworn in that area and that pulled thousands of shots in a bar! I guess some mark and some don’t…depends on the fit.
