I am in a current dilemma, Been awaiting the Synesso ES1 to make a final decision but according to a local vendor it won't hit near us until December and the price range is in $9-10k (Way beyond the budget). My current setup is a Lelit Bianca V2+ Lagom P100+Niche+Kopi Deva So my choices are either: 1- LA GS3 MP. 2- Any Saturated Group head that is worth it. 3- Safe Lever Machine (is there one?). 4- Just forget about upgrading. The Bianca is so decent I find it hard to find an upgrade. Use is mainly 50% Sunshine Lattes, 50% Underworld dark drinks.

Are you upgrading for upgrades' sake, or do you feel your current combo is missing something?

I often wonder, if you could assemble a veritable line of coffee machines on a bench, and then someone put earphones and a blindfold and brought you random coffee one after the other.........would you actually learn anything! @"tompoland"#p24686 I'm not sure the Nurri is 'safe'. It's safe from portafilter sneeze (as long as one remembers to release the pressure with the paddle), but the lever itself is free to move. Not that avoidance of portafilter sneeze is anything to - ahem - sniff about, as I can attest even from this morning, when I changed beans and choked the machine… As far as I know, only the LM Leva-X/Leva-S and (some?) Kees van der Westen lever machines have 'safe' levers with a clutch preventing unintended release, but they are priced beyond even @"Otaibimn"#p24681 's very generous budget (at least new). This said, in 2 months of lever machine use (and a couple of slips…), the victims have been 2 coffee cups and a healthy respect for the 250 kg of force the springs exert once fully compressed. However, I think the stories of broken jaws have to refer to coffee-shop environments where multiple levers are 'on the move' and people are in a rush; I really can't see that sort of accident happening in a home.

I so did say that it was my belief that the reason for rhe depth was to make it more resistant of the pull force on the lever rather than any inside knowledge per se…however I didn’t say that the evo is easy to tip. All I pointed out was that the evo case was originally not designed for a lever and that it incorporates counterweight to stabilise it, and so the counterweight must have been added to improve the machine’s resistance to tipping.

chlorox One other interesting thing re: stability is the actual shape of the machines. The Nurri has those swept-back wings, whereas the ACS cannot be defined as anything other than “boxy”. However the side-panels are unlikely to add that much weight/move the centre of mass much further back - you can see in the photo here that quite a chunk of the length is ‘empty’.

I think the stability/anti-tipping is more likely to come from the distribution of weight inside the case (e.g. positioning the boilers closer to the back) and positioning the feet closer to the corners, than the length itself. The Nurri is also ‘inherently’ lighter than the ACS - it’s 35 kg without a counterweight, vs. the 39 + 8 of the ACS. My back is not grateful.

I thought I read that the nurri was heavier than the evo,despite not having any counterweight? The odd thing is that Bella barista says it weighs 35kg while the aussie suppliers say it weighs 45kg. I suspect that the aussie info may be more up to date as rhe Bella barista info may be based on pre order so the blurb may have been drafted at a much earlier stage.

CoyoteOldMan that’s a good point. I had concern on that after hearing that issue. I actually wrote to Paolo and he assured that “we are very precise in that (temperature precision)”. I am hopeless in technical matters but I trust Antonio has done various testing before he makes that claims? So, I tend to the Nurri has some design to make the 1 PID does the job?

Knluk Fingers crossed re: delivery times/availability… Italy still tends to ‘shut down’ during August - even if Nurri may still be working, their suppliers are likely not to, and that will end up causing delays.

Re: the PIDs - I don’t know. I haven’t seen any testing done on the Nurri (probably because there are too few around). I know from several reports and personal experience that the ACS is a) VERY stable and b) easily and quickly adjustable. Bear in mind that - other than the smaller boilers adopted from the Minima - the Evo has the Vostok’s internals and firmware; ACS has had 7+ years to get these well tuned.

chlorox AFAIK the nurri has the following abilities that the evo does not have:–

To purge or flush the grouphead or to even make an espresso entirely with he rotary pump and without pulling the lever at all by engaging the right paddle
2. To terminate the shot and vacate the remaining water in the piston chamber by engaging the left paddle which can do away or reduce the likelihood of needing to whip the cup away so as to not catch the watery overextracted trickle at the end of the shot
3. To use the left paddle to remove the pressure almost immediately so that you can quickly remove the portafilter without the danger of portafilter sneeze
4. If you have choked the machine, then you can remove the portafilter without an explosion of coffee gruel all over the machine by engaging the left paddle
5. The ability to backwash the groiphead screen with a blind basket and using both paddles (although this ability isn’t really needed for traditional levers usually)
6. A shot timer that switches on automatically
7. The ability to set and change preinfusion pressure without needing to lift the top off and access the pump inside the machine

At the expense of correct information, for the unit I had which was an early version, so perhaps it has changed. I never really got any feedback on changes

Yes you can purge the group, or flush it, but making an espresso entirely with the rotary pump, although theoretically possible, unless there has been a change (I recommended), is not practical. To make an espresso using the rotary pump, you would have to access the pumps balanced bypass through a hole in the case, and use a screwdriver to raise the balanced bypass pressure from preinfusion pressure to whatever shot pressure you wanted e.g. 9 bar. As for flushing the group, yes you can with a paddle, but also equally easy by pulling the lever down a small way.
Yes you can do this, but you may well want to move the cup fairly soon, as you will still get some drips from the portafilter as there will be a water layer above the coffee that needs time to dry out.
Correct for the portafilter sneeze, but you would want to leave the PF locked in for a while to avoid a watery soupy mess when you knock it out. I used to leave it for 20 to 30s
Yes you can do this which is handy. On a machine without this feature e.g. Evo, you would need to apply forward pressure on the lever until 0 showed on the gauge, then remove the PF
Yes, this can be done and would be necessary to keep the vent system clean
It does, and it switches off when you use the paddle to vent the group. On the early machine I had, if you didn’t manually vent the group the timer carried on and had to be manually stopped/reset by pulling the paddle to vent the group before the next shot
Yes, this is done by accessing the balanced bypass screw through a hole in the case. I seem to remember on my machine this was at the rear, so wasn’t so easy for me to get to. as I couldn’t easily move the machine far enough forward (risk of falling off the counter).

This is just an addition to the features you mention so that you fully understand them as they existed on my early test machine.
