I’m busy packing for my upcoming move to Spain and I, foolishly, allowed myself to run out of quality beans. I popped into Sainsbury’s because I’ve heard that Union coffee is half decent for a supermarket blend and picked up the most recently roasted pack they had (a month old).
When I got home, I discovered that In my haste I’d managed to pick up a pack of ground-for-cafetiere. I tried a shot and didn’t like it (too insipid) then I remembered about re-grinding, so I took the disc out of my Niche and re-ground the grinds for the next shot, slowly pouring them in while the Niche was open and while holding down the little switch.
I had to adjust much finer than my normal espresso setting (6 instead of 14ish) to get the yield to last even 25 seconds, but I’m pleased to report it improved the shot greatly.
Hopefully, this might help someone in future.
