Hi Everyone, on the basis of a few DM between myself, @tompoland and @Patrick I thought I’d start a thread on this brewer which might be considered the Decent of Pour Over devices. Its certainly an interesting machine. To kick things off I’ll post a few YouTube reviews

I like the features and touch screen, seems like it would work well even for non-coffee folk. Would be a nice addition for guests to use. The design is a bit lacking though, not very cohesive. Each individual component doesn’t mesh well with each other, a bit like they just slapped the components together? I’m also not a fan of that silver powder coat type surface finish, it’s overused on coated plastics so looks plasticky. Would work better in black (the blue one looks so bad who okayed that…) Gevi obviously trying to fill in the gap in the market, but from the video reviews it seems they’re lacking a bit in some important aspects. Also far too expensive.

I think the design is OK. The build quality is good and there’s pretty much universal acclaim about the grinder. If you bought all the components separately it would likely cost more

Sham work flow is pretty darned good really. You’d have to go to fully auto to get anything significantly better I suspect.

Hard for you to tell from a video but in the flesh it presents as good quality, robust.

tompoland Thanks, how well do they work out, e.g. imagine I sold all my brew kit & grinders, then bought this, take it out the box and I want a cup of coffee…what’s involved in getting that first cup & how does it stand up, compared to then tailoring to an ideal brew?

MWJB I guess the idea is to take the learning curve barrier away. I bought it for that reason and for the burr set which is impressive for brew, according to a friend who knows a specialist burr consultant, the latter who rated them in the top 3 for pour over burrs. (Aplogies that the name of burr guru is on my old phone which is undergoing surgery at the moment).

I was attracted to the Gevi 4-1 because I feel the I should be less of an espresso-only Neanderthal and get to like pour over. But I didn’t want another hobby, hence the desire to reduce the learning curve via the Gevi.

The xBloom takes the concept of reducing the learning curve even further by supplying beans along with a microchip that adjust the water temperature, the grind setting and the pouring style to match the beans as recommended by the roaster.

Grahamsphillips I’m sure I’ve watched all the videos in the past, apologies if my specific question is answered somewhere in the hour plus of videos and I missed it, but I was hoping for some user experience, and someone would be able to advise.

MWJB IMHO, a lot of the features may remain ambiguous to a brew expert like you, unless you test them yourself, including the measurement of EY to your liking!

Lance, I think, mentions that he has done extensive testing and measurements inc the EY; I think mentions an EY of 22+% and he likes the cup. This EY might be on the higher side for you! :-)
