Niche Zero Problem

This morning my Zero stopped sending grounds out of the tube. So I watched a few videos of how to clean and followed them . However the problem still persists!!, i have done this a few times now ( and I am desperate for a coffee!). I have included a video of what happens and a few pics . There seem to large bean particles which in my extremely limited experience would suggest the burr is not sitting correctly. I have reached out to Niche but wondered if anyone might have an idea how I have messed this up !

no vid, im presuming you have taken the center screw out?

have you cleaned and then re calibrated just in case you moved the dot

@Cro55y - Exactly what Cuprajake says.

If you watched the videos of how to clean it, you didn’t follow them to the end 🙂.

When you put the screw back, make sure you hand tighten it first, and then just give it a good shock turn with a nut driver (rather than a screw driver, if it make sense). It doesn’t need to be extremely tight, just enough that it doesn’t undo itself.

Hi , this is me taking it apart again to show the bean particles , everything was put back and central locking nut secured with tool that it came with can’t seem to upload video ! As that would show all back in place!

Cro55y What platform are you using to upload the video? I don’t think you can drop video media directly in a forum post; you need to upload them to (say) YouTube or ImgURL, then link that into the post

Can’t make heads or tails of it… I can’t even tell whether you have both burrs in the grinder (which I assume you do - just saying). Off the top of my head, the two possible causes are the same that @Cuprajake and @MediumRoastSteam mention: either the bolt has not been tightened enough, allowing the inner burr to ‘float’, or the collar has not been tightened enough, so there is a huge space between the two burrs.

Have you followed all the steps in this (for example)?

I assume when you cleaned it you verified that the chute is clear and there isn’t something blocking it? That’s honestly the only possibility I can think of

Ok, so yes all parts that I took out are back in .( where they came from )

I have tightened the bolt until the burrs just start to move . I have tightened the collar until I can turn it no further. I have also checked the 2 slots that feed the tunnel each time ( 😆 I have done this a number of times ) to ensure they are clear . Maybe I will film putting it back together as I am getting quite quick with it now 🙂

Just making sure… But you say that you “have tightened the collar until I can turn it no further”. Say that’s at your “zero” mark. Did you open up the burrs to around 15 or so, so coffee can be ground? (I think you did, but just checking).

If not the above, did you put the sweeper the right way up? Did you put the burr assembly springs back?

edit: Looks like you did… Maybe a chute blockage then? Without watching you putting it back together, it will be a hard guess.

Also, did you put the disk the right way up? Does it grind without the disk?

id of said the chute could be blocked,

id take to bits, clean all the bits chute inc, make sure the burrs go back on the key way and tighten, then recalibrate

unless the beans are super oily there should be no back log,

where are you based as some one may be local

The exit from the grinds chamber can get blocked. 2 slots. Grinds can also collect in the same area at the top of the outlet spout. Never had mine block but grinds do collect there. A brush up the spout can remove them.

Maybe a match stick into the slots from inside the grinds chamber will help if they are firmly blocked.

Some gentle poking and rubbing up the spout say with the end of a tooth brush handle wont cause any harm either.

Thanks all for your suggestions, I knew it was user error. It was a calibration issue , which I now understand!!

Cro55y I did mine in a hurry last time and calibrated to zero not the calibration marker which meant that nothing would feed! I felt like an idiot when I realised what I’d done 🤦

On the plus side it didn’t seem to do any damage.

In essence yes, the calibration was gone and I thought it was ok so 20 wasn’t 20 ! But a good learning experience with the grinder. Just as an aside I was impressed by the speed of support by Niche
