Great to have another La Marzocco owner here, pretty sure that makes two of us 😅 Congrats on the new machine, you’re in for a treat, and for people regularly telling you you could’ve bought X machine for X thousand pounds less.

So some random questions… Did you get a water testing kit with it ? Are you using bottled or filtered for the machine ? Is it as quick to heat up as has been said ? Or is it a longer period if you want to make milk drinks from turning on the machine? cheers Matt

Not to jump in and answer on behalf of @"KyleT"#495 but I can confirm the Linea Mini heats up incredibly quick, well under 10 mins for the brew boiler, not far off 10 for steam at 1.5 bar. If you leave the steam at the default 2.0 it takes slightly longer, but since I like my milk to stay in the pitcher and not all over the kitchen I lowered the pressure. With that in mind I’d say the claimed warmup times of the Micra are probably accurate. Mine also came with a water drop test although I know my water is the hardest of hard so I use Lockhills exclusively. It’s not the perfect scale-free water, but it’s a risk I’m knowingly taking.

@"MattH"#p36927 Hi, no water testing kit came with it. I’ve heard from others who have purchased the Micra that despite the manual mentioning water testing kits they didn’t receive one either. I am putting only Tesco Ashbeck in to it. About 5mins and its ready to go both brew and steam, i will normally let it warm for 15-20mins though.

@"Cuprajake"#p36937 its grey, i saw everyone posting pictures of the white one with the occasional red or black but never saw a grey. Also, grey is the only colour where the back plate (where the two gauges are) is painted in the same colour.

Ernie1 I did not know it was 170 ml, I thought they were identical. But you do not seem to have issues with temp stability as Mini’s temperature stability is legendary.

KyleT So its been about a month - hows it going with the micra ?

Its still the top of my want list - even when I have come across minis on the used market - i think the smaller size just works better in a kitchen.

Any issues or dislikes - or are you just pulling great shots and its just works 👍

MattH going very well, it’s a joy to use with superb stability and consistency. The only things I could knock it for are the short steam wand which can make it tricky to steam milk sometimes and a lack of a shot timer. But I knew about these things before purchasing and they aren’t the end of the world.

I did wonder about the steam arm as it’s not exactly cavernous under the group of the Mini so it must be pretty tight on the Micra!

Also little tip for the shot timer (not limited to any particular machine)… a watch! After I sold the Bianca I realised I’d been wearing a ‘shot timer’ on my wrist all along!

Yeah it adds Slayer style preinfusion control to the paddle without removing the normal paddle functionality.

Each to their own but if I was keen to have flow control I’d probably go for a GS3. The Lineas are so incredibly well put together the last thing I’d want to do is screw that that up by modding it.

On the shot timer I’ve seen one somewhere where there’s a little LCD built in to a modified paddle. Probably the neatest way of doing it if you’re desperate for a timer.

I will refrain from commenting about the lack of this feature on such an expensive machine…I do remember the Mercedes days when a radio was extra….other cars were coming with radio cassettes and I even think CD players. My Vauxhall Omega had a 6 disk changer in the boot…

To be fair, traction control is only required when they are running, so 50% with a HD. 😜

I know you’re joking and it’s a running gag but I’m really not sure where it came from. The beater bike (1200 Sporty) I used to commute round London for a few years was left out uncovered in snow, rain, ice. It didn’t look pretty but it never missed a beat, not once! Even the ’94 Lowrider I had ran like a new bike and again, I didn’t exactly baby it.

I can only assume it’s fallout from the AMF years 73-81 when Harley sold the co and the bikes weren’t great.

Meanwhile… whilst I don’t miss the Harleys, the 2020 Triumph has been back in the workshop three times since I got it!

Then again, it’s probably a reflection on older vehicles in general. Hard to imagine EFI and ECU’s are going to be holding up in 40 years time whereas carbs will run forever.

Circling back to the machines, it’s another reason I like how primitive the LM is. Granted an LCD isn’t exactly high-tech but even the temp control is an analogue wheel, one less thing to go wrong!

The Studmistress always claimed that her Triumph Spitfire was not leaking oil just marking its territory. (Didn’t leak anything after I had at it!).

None of the old 1950-1980UK/Euro/USA bikes had much to offer in reliability which was why the Japanese bikes captured so much of the market.

I knew someone who had an AMF Harley Aermacchi SX 175 2 stroke. It looked nothing like a HD. I remember AMF from my 10 pin bowling days where they made machines (Pin Setters I think) for bowling alleys.

I can’t remember the guys name, but it’s on the tip of my tongue (said the Dalai Llama)…Ah Martin Amer….used to tear around on that bike like he’d stolen it.

Just got to pick a colour - though the grey is winning I think (and that the dial panel is also painted rather than chromed )
