I have a two group nuova simonelli program plus. I have a loud noise sounding like it’s coming from the motor when I pull a shot. Also the steam is coming out of the steam wand all the time. It’s almost like it’s constantly heating? I’m not quite sure just looking for advice before I start throwing money at a motor and other.

    Hello welcome to the forum

    What water do you use?

Wellnesscafe Welcome to the forum if the steam valve is defective, needs servicing or replacement you might well get steam coming out of the wand. Just upload a video to YouTube as unlisted and paste the link here, we can have a listen and perhaps give you some pointers as to the source of the noise. If you have a brew pressure gauge be sure to show it and pull a shot against a blind filter.

Have you had the machine from new, recently purchased it, inherited it and how old is the machine? Is the water it uses treaded for limescale?

Hi I rebuilt the machine from the ground up last year. It only started leaking steam out of the wand about 2-3 months ago. It also has a cup warmer on top that the steam can heat up through a series of holes in copper tubing that always has steam coming out of it when not in use. It seams like the machine just doesn’t stop heating up. I do have the water treated through a filter and for lime but often forget to put salt in. I’m almost positive the noise it from the motor but it always says “heating” and there is supposed to be a display that says “ready”. I’m guessing I need to descale the wand and replace motor but I’m just confused about the steam coming out the top cup warmer

I posted some pictures where the steam is coming out the top. I’m just wondering if the machine is not stopping heating would it be a relay or a sensor or what?

Wellnesscafe If the machine has leaks, e.g. steam constantly coming out, it is not surprising that the heater is permanently on as the machine operates with a pressure stat (here I am guessing as you mentioned a display, does it have a PID to control the temperature?) and as a result it never reaches the pressure (or temperature?) the pressurestat (PID?) expects whence the heater is permanently on. For the steam wand as @DavecUK has mentioned, it is likely that the inners need replacement. What machine is it, Aurelia or Apia?

You might need to tighten up the compressions as it is not normal the cups to be warmed up “by the steam”.
Given you rebuilt it up last year this should not be a big deal for you.

In the first photo ,bottom L/H side there is a T connection. The nut is covered in scale which suggests a steady leak and untreated water.

@Wellnesscafe lets get back to some basics, bearing in mind my interest and key knowledge area is prosumer machines..

            • perforated tube for heating the cups, can’t see it, not aware any machine has that except the Izzo 1 group lever whose party piece was to toggle a knob and jet steam up through the cup tray to warm the cups (Ill conceived in my opinion)..
            • The round copper thing like a small ash tray is the area where the vacuum breaker no doubt vents…at least that’s what I would have done. Possibly they also routed the safety valve there as well
            • NS used a combined safety valve and vacuum breaker back then, trace the pipe from the “internal ashtray” and you should find it.
            • If it’s constantly steaming, then by how much..I have asked for a video…do this with the top off.
            • If it’s only steaming a little then it would probably have blown up, so either it must be steaming a lot, or your running the element at reduced power wired as a single phase unit.
            • There are leaks, but it looks to be on the pump cold side, so although it needs fixing, it’s probably not related to your problems
            • A noise is…what? do the test I asked for a video (with sound) showing the pressure gauge, of a shot against a blind filter. Without this it’s a noise and could be anything.

If you want to fix this, you need to do a little more work in providing some better quality information, which will allow us to help you. There’s no point making guesses at this stage and it’s not helpful to you either..
