prezes I was wondering if this was a coffee bean above. Funnily enough I ordered the PNG from rave yesterday as they had free shipping.
Cuprajake ordered some of this https://www.pennineteaandcoffee.co.uk/products/colombian-cafe-granja-la-esperanza-arabica-green-coffee-beans-1kg now to try a profile, for £4 per month you have access to the advanced and comp files on the r1 but theres no data points, so you roast blind, im going to do the next one on a modified profile that can be adjusted, i used a shared profile for my last Ethiopian, but had to jump into manual to bring temps up
MediumRoastSteam Cuprajake thats why im wondering if ive roasted it wrong Maybe you’ve gone too light (too short a development) on them? Happened to me before.
LMSC Cuprajake What are your shot temp and shot time ? I think you normally to 1:2 at arnd sub-8 bars?
Cuprajake LMSC i was thinking that last night to drop a bit, im 92/98 atm and i pulled this one at 8bars 17.6 in and 34g out. was thinking of going to 90/96
LMSC Cuprajake I have seen 92/98 for < medium resulting in unpleasant acidity. I am mostly happy with 91/97.
LMSC Cuprajake If it is light / medium, why don’t you try pulling longer, say cutting at 7 bars and see if it helps.
Cuprajake So boilers dropped and 7bar pulled the cup 17.6g in 43.6g out Still too bright, so I’m thinking bad roast Will go longer into development after FC with the next go.
MediumRoastSteam Cuprajake Still too bright, so I’m thinking bad roast Very likely. Try extending the browning phase a little longer by reducing heat (or increasing fan, see what works), but not to stall the roast. That’s why I said you defo need a few kgs roasted before you really understand what’s going on. 👍
Cuprajake So just finished off the Brazilian that came with the machine. Mrs has been on that for the last week, and have to say as a milk drink it works really well, Looking forward to roasting the Brazilian from rave which should be a bit better quality green.
prezes My first two roasts were with the Brazilian from Rave and even though they were far from perfect we thoroughly enjoyed both batches. Funnily enough I rarely order Brazilian as roasted beans normally.
Cuprajake Been watching alot of Rob hoos stuff atm, next roast I’m going to keep air a fixed number, it’s one of his recommendations. See what happens haha
Cuprajake Opened the el Carmen And the graph Nice in the cup, looking at rave who sell this it’s a med dark roast with them so I may push it a bit longer after first crack next time.
prezes Cuprajake started on mine this morning as well and similar thoughts as you. Probably roasted too light although still very enjoyable
