Regarding greens, what sort of price are we talking if buying in say 10kg bags for a Brazilian bean?

And how long do green beans last? I’m guessing a long time given the way I’ve seen many bags just lying around open at roasters.

Depends on what you buy and where you buy it, of course. I tend to pay £10-15 per kg for beans that I reckon would be £20-30 roasted, and I get that for smaller quantities (1-5 kg), so 10kg might be lower.

I keep greens for months, probably had some for a year or more, and never had a problem. I don’t do anything special for storage.

Nice, thanks. I’ve been considering an Ikawa as they do a 100g one now and I like the fact it can roast indoors.

Yeah greens is dependent on storage but I’ve read up to 2 yrs.

I’m going to dig into the Brazilian I roasted on weds, I’ll do that for the morning, I’ll test, give it to my wife see how she likes it, 😂

Even though it’s not immediate, at least you haven’t got to wait too long to taste the results.

I remember my first effort making beer, waited three weeks to effectively end up with 12 bottles of bile 😂

It’s definitely worth keeping an eye on the previously mentioned Facebook group. I had 7kg of a rather lovely Kenyan delivered a few weeks back and paid just over £60.

so ground the Brazilian i roasted, ground at 20 on the niche same as i do for my black cat choc point,

this is the pull

mrs liked it, tasted ok for me, im not a fan of that type of roast.

Cuprajake It went a little faster, IMO. Nice pour though. You may want to tighten a bit and see the taste difference.

So I caved and did a v60 of the Ethiopian

Tasting notes of stone fruit, citrus and black tea

Drinking I’m getting all three of the notes which amazes me, thin bodied, bright acidity, small sweetness in the after taste

Smelling the beans I’m sure I can smell a hint of smoke, so I’m tempted to up the fan in the final stages of development but so far I’m loving it.

Was that your own roast, probably needs to rest a bit more, then you can loosen the grind…when the coffee is very fresh, the shots can be a little funny towards the end because you have to grind finer.

how was it as a V60?
