OldGregg Since It has no ability to operate on a Z-axis (move up and down), the mound is just pushed around, and the spacing of the needles leaves an uneven level.
Just curious about a couple of things: 1) How many needles did you use, and 2) did you use the long and short needles?
I used their recommended number (was it 12?; I’m not near my coffee station). This is obviously too many. I only have 6 on my normal WDT tool. Too many too close together would definitely push coffee around. I will give 6 a try.
It’s has long and short needles, which apparently is meant to address the need for deep and shallow WDT.
Less is generally more, so I will spin it perhaps 3 times or 6 at most.
At this juncture, I am espresso machineless until my Decent arrives, so I have no ability to test further at the moment. When the Decent arrives and goes into operation at the end of this month, I will have too much going on to want to introduce another variable vs the tried and true manual WDT. So it will have to wait.
My gut feel is that there is just too much grinds movement going on, which can/does cause channeling and/or uneven flow.
@OldGregg Did you use a shot mirror to see what’s going on with the shot? And what was the impact on taste? Would you mind running a few more tests, before you ditch it?
