Lowering a Profitec Pro 400 in height?

I’m looking to upgrade to a prosumer machine.

I had it down to 3 machines:

Rocket apartamento.
Lelit MaraX.
Profitec Pro 400.

I’ve been told that the Rocket has recently had a few issues causing machines to be returned - so unless anyone can dispute this - it’s on the back burner.

Lelit MaraX is currently the front runner due to its height.

Now - the Pro 400. This was going to be my chosen machine - until I realised that it is 372mm high and the front trim on the cupboard it needs to fit under is 370mm from the countertop at the point where it would be positioned (it’s 376mm to the left of this). But given that I’m going to need to pull it out to re-fill the water every so often…

My question is: Can the feet be lowered or replaced by a smaller height profile?

I’ve looked into removing the cup rail as I wont be placing cups on there due to obvious height restrictions but I’m told that it’s riveted into the cover plate

Open to suggestions

Ellangus Welcome to the forum, most people put felt furniture sliders on the feet of machines, so that can be easily pulled out from under a cupboard for filling. The feet can be lowered, but it won’t look great. If the machine won’t go under the height of the cupboard., might be worth looking at machines that are lower.

Do you know by how much the feet can be lowered by any chance?

It’s a shame the cup rail isn’t detachable as I won’t be using it and it looks to be 1-2cm high.

I don’t as I have never tried alternative feet….which would be what’s required to lower the height. The existing Profitec feet are already pretty low, so there would be limited or no scope to make it lower.

Ellangus Do you know how the Mara X compares to the Pro 400?

While both machines are HX and have three temp settings, my understanding is that there is one significant difference between how they work:

Mara X will keep the set brew temperature, then once used will boost the temp/pressure for steaming milk (if in the steam boost mode, otherwise it will just regulate the brew temp). This means the machine will idle at the correct brew temperature without requiring a cooling flush.

The 400, if I understand correctly (never saw it in person) is a standard HX. Its three temp settings will regulate high/medium/low steam temperature, which means you will need a cooling flush to hopefully bring you to the ballpark of correct brew temperature (longer flush in the high setting, shorter in the low setting).

To me the above seems like a big advantage (so as not to say a no-brainer) for the Lelit. What made you lean towards the Profitec?

I was leaning toward the pro 400 because of advice from Bella Barista. (Could be because they don’t seem to stock the Mara x of course 😉)

I’ve been looking back toward the Lelit since, mainly due to its height.

My son has the Mara x and he rates it too although I’ve not had a chance to try it as he lives 2 hours drive away.

Also can’t find anywhere in the Uk with them in stock!

Is the ECM Puristika a contender?

Single boiler but I’d imagine pulling the machine out to fill the tank would get old very quickly. Not sure it’s great for the machine either if you’re moving it when heating or cooling.

Also the Linea Micra as its water tank is bottom loading and slides out easy. Different budget altogether though.

Hadn’t looked at the ECM Puristika a contender tbh. Certainly compact and very handy to have the water so accessible. Also very cool looking!

I notice it has no steam wand though and while I won’t be using it often, I will be using it occasionally.

The other one is well over my budget unfortunately but thank you for your suggestions.

Ah sorry yes I always forget it doesn’t do steam. Clue is in the name I guess…

The Classika is probably the closest I think but possibly too tall.

Yes, I think you’re right.

Can’t seem to get the Mara X anywhere in the UK now, everywhere seems to be sold out.

Bella Barista told me that once the Pro 400 was released, everybody started buying those and they were left with stock of the Mara X in the warehouse which took ages to sell and they have to order them by the pallet - apparently they can’t order them in single units.

Have you thought about the Elizabeth? Jumps you up to a dual boiler.
