John_Yossarian glad to read you agree about the J-Max and having spent more time with the Comondante C60, if it was just for espresso and given the price differential the J-Max is the winner.
The portapresso was easily the highest quality portable espresso maker. It was quite impressive. I sold it in part because I wanted to try something that had more predictable temperature control and stability. I ended up with a Flair 58 but that proved too big to travel with for my liking.
I had a Picopresso too but I found the Staresso easier to pour the shot with. It was the Staresso Plus and you’ll spot it in the bottom right hand corner of the first pic above, folded up.
If you end up ordering a Staresso be aware that the tamper is an extra item. Also, make sure you ask about the baskets and specifiy that you want a naked non-pressurized basket because some people I know had on in the box on arrival and others only had the pressurized basket which is not great.
The Portapresso was great but I’ve got the hang of the Staresso now and Ive found it pretty easy to use.
