Grinder for Filter Coffee - £250 Budget

I’m looking to finally upgrade from my £60 grinder for pourover/filter/Aeropress brews and have a budget of around £250.00, so what would be your suggestions?

I’m looking for an electric grinder and one which is new, but haven’t seen many in this price range. I know the Wilfa Uniform is recommended - assuming I plump for the silver model - so that’s on my radar. I have also considered investing a bit more and getting the new Fellow Ode, but if I can stick to the £250 range it would be better for my finances.

Any help is much appreciated!

winterlight Other than being sort of in your price range, I’m not sure the Wilfa is ‘recommended’ for any particular reason?

Never used one but the Baratza Encore & Virtuoso seem well respected.

You can’t really go wrong at this price point for a brew only grinder but I’d say Baratza Virtuoso or Wilfa Uniform depending on whether you want a conical or a flat.

If you can stretch to the Ode 2, I’d highly recommend it. I’ve used mine daily for about 3 months for V60 and Moccamaster and it’s brilliant. Looks great too, quiet and incredibly quick.

There’s also the new Fellow Opus conical although it’s brand new so not much info on it yet.

The Wilfa has a slightly annoying catch bin lid, but it’s not necessary for the grinder to function. It does stop the catch bin from vibrating out of the grinder when grinding.

It also regularly traps a bean or so, when its finished grinding, I give it a shake & grind again to make sure the whole dose has gone through.

It doesn’t do anything that conical grinders also do.

Thanks for the suggestions. I had considered the Baratza ones, but I find them a little ugly in terms of design.

I guess it’ll come down to whether I can justify the extra cash for the Ode (which I agree looks amazing) over the Uniform.

Probably not, I think a weeks or 2 ago they were getting them air shipped, so I would imagine pretty soon…

That’s the v1 unfortunately.

Great grinder, as long as you don’t mind cleaning it every day. Absolute static monster.

I had one for three days before returning it due to the mess it made.

The v2 is about £375 I think, night and day improvement on the v1.

Yeah, I still think the C40 is about the very best in that price point if we’re talking in the cup. Hand grinding for filter isn’t too much effort either.

There’s a lot of convenience with a big(ish) flat I suppose. The Ode does 32g in about 7 seconds and retention seems to average about .1g.

Quick update: I bought the Fellow Ode about two weeks ago and absolutely love it. Quick, quiet and uniform grinds. A phenomenal difference compared to my old Delonghi.
