@Cuprajake @DavecUK Thanks very much for yours and other people’s post on this forum. I’ve only recently signed up but I’ve ‘lurked’ in the background and read the forum since it was created. It has been very helpful and it is an excellent online community.
I rarely drink espresso but make 4 to 8 Americano’s for my partner and I each day. I’d would probably make more milk based drinks (e.g., 2 latte’s in the day and maybe a decaf latte in the evening) if I had a better steaming machine than a Gaggia Classic. I was wondering how much difference I would notice in the quality of an Americano using a Lelit Bianca with a Niche Zero, vs the Gaggia Classic and Niche Zero? Is the Bianca overkill essentially? Thanks for anyone’s help with the query. I posted it here as it is related to the Lelit thread but if I should post it as a separate thread please let me know.

I think the classic can be bettered and give you a much more pleasant and easy experience. Perhaps keep and eye out on the classifieds, there’s often something good on there…A new Bianca may well be overkill for your needs. An Elizabeth or similar class machine, would probably do everything you needed at the moment.
i suppose its only over kill if you dont use it or are stretching financial wise to get it,
for a grand you can get an Elizabeth

@MediumRoastSteam can comment on the steam side of things,
in terms of the bianca it steams very well, 2 or 4 hole tip.
i never got on with my classic and sold it very quickly, but @Gav86 who bought my old bianca seemed positive about the upgrade.
really depends on your budget, what you want to achieve etc.

I went from a Classic, to an Elizabeth and now have a Bianca. The jump from Classic to the Liz was huge. The jump from Liz to Bianca was pretty big too, steaming specifically and also the different options profiling brings.
@btlaney - Think the Elizabeth could serve you well.
If you look at some other forums (I could paste the link here but I don’t want to upset the mods or break rules) - there’s an Elizabeth hanging around there for £725. It’s a very good price. If you want click on my Avatar and in there you’ll see my email address you can reach out to me.
I had the Elizabeth for 3 years, and it’s as good as new, providing you look after her well. It would cope with your cappuccini and americani (if we’re going to write in Italian, let’s do it properly 🤣) very well. 8 a day should be no problem. I don’t drink Americano or the sorts, but on the Elizabeth the hot water comes from the brew boiler - so you can use the water from the machine itself to top the drink up, and the water won’t be stale. Steaming should not be a problem at all. It’s a very capable machine.
It’s a very easy machine to maintain. After 3 years, Lizzy is still the love of my life (oh dear, where I am going with this… 🤣) and I wouldn’t change her for the world. But I understand that Bianca is just down the road, waving at me. I just haven’t stopped by yet… 😂
Anyway, feel free to send an email to me and I can reply with those links if you are interested.
@Cuprajake I appreciate the extra points, thank you. Your last point is exactly my dilemma I think - I need to think through what I want to achieve and make a decision.
@Del_UK That is helpful to know the couple of jumps you took. The profiling options is something I think I might get into. I’ve enjoyed espresso when I’ve worked in Italy briefly but quite enjoy a larger drink when working at home.
@MediumRoastSteam I’ll keep that in mind, thank you for the comment on steaming and offer to chat. And the tip on writing in Italian 😁 I have an Osmio Zero so I probably wouldn’t use the machine for hot water. It sounds like you’re about to go for a wander down that street!
So a bit of preventive maintenance
The flow control valve on mine doesn’t close full, it’s tight
To found a small Allen key, and took it off, you the. Open the valve fully and remove the big top nut,
After this I took out the gauze and the e61 gicleur, this is a 7mm.
Both fittings were not tight which is good, thanks to @DavecUK for pointing out doing this
The flow control I then un screwed to add grease. There was very little if any on there 🙄
Pics
I’m hoping this is just newness of the valve needing to bed in and deburr itself

Just to make it a little bit harder I could also mention the MaraX. Had it for over two years now and it is also a very good machine. On the MaraX you can also do flow profiling even though the range on the Bianca is little better. I rarely do multiple drinks but maybe the Elizabeth is better there, not sure though. Generally think Lelit is good bang for the buck and the Bianca is the best and most expensive, after that I think Elizabeth and MaraX are rather close both in price and quality.
btlaney we enjoyed our classic, I had done some minor mods - upgrade steam stat to a 155deg version, silvia steam wand and temperature surfing. Takes a while to steam and recover but it was manageable. Gaggia late art:
However bianca is a different beast, much more powerful and takes a bit of practice:
