JHCCoffee - I’ll just quote a previous post in this thread:

MediumRoastSteam JHCCoffee Feel free to post on HB

No thanks. One of my principles. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Even without being a member on HB, your post very much describes the impression I have of them. I wish them all the very best of luck in their bubble.

I asked for my account to be closed on hb, when a member called malling, all knowing all saying about burrs and grinders, who actually never provided any proof of stuff, said I had a monetary involvement with niche, which I don’t. And the mod not only sided with him, but actually said I was fair game because I got a grinder for free.

Joke of a forum who seem to stick up for liars, I had issues with londiniums owner reiss on there too.

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Lagom P64 - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

Cuprajake No doubt there are some favored whiners at H-B as I’ve had my share of bans, etc. Not that long ago I made a simple sarcastic comment regarding foreign build quality of a grinder and was banned as it was considered a racial slur, yeah lmao on that one. Who doesn’t make fun of some of the crap that comes from China, etc?!? Also, it’s hilarious the way the site owner will often close threads, ban members, etc. for bashing manufacturers publicly as well as him rewording thread titles to suit his expectations, cleaning up replies that might lead to bashing, that sort of thing. Then of course the idiotic whining over cross posting, when I’m pretty sure that often happens by mistake as some are just looking for a quick answer and some of those senior members think it’s beyond them to reply to topics they find less interesting. There are indeed far better/more friendly forums to be a part of and avoid dumps like H-B.

JonWoo187 - this thread should be split between its original title and another one created “Home-Barista (Forum) impressions” so the wider community could have access to its content as the title would be surfaced on search engines. And also being disassociated with the poor Lelit Elizabeth which has nothing to do with it. 👍

      Tagging @DavecUK

        JonWoo187 - my thoughts exactly! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

When I wrote this I wanted it to have a sarcastic tone too (although I think it makes sense to split) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I will have a look tomorrow. You have to remember HB is a commercial forum, so their drivers are different. Whenever you have 2 “masters” to serve, it becomes a problem. Here the only people that matter are the members and the facts, or our honest attempts to represent them.

Their moderator is a conceited, rude P… Name begins with D… Here is a further extract from our conversation. Fyi, the HBer I sold the LE to is very very happy about the transaction and my extensive efforts to help him. I spent hours with him and then meticulously packing it.

I’m thinking about ripping Mr D a new one, via online post on HB. Then resigning from HB.

Here’s the extract from my reply PM:

I have been polite and respectful in my communications with you. Accordingly, I do not appreciate your reply that “BUY/SELL: I can live with a less active buy/sell forum. Honestly, your excessive price updates comes across as attempting to fleece ignorant buyers. Sure, you’ll make more money by posting a high price and moving it down when it’s ignored (i.e., you don’t find a chump).”

I am an honest and honourable person and do not try to “fleece” people or seek to find “chumps”. I have been and am fair with everyone that I deal with, both in the equipment that I occasionally resell and in my broader professional life. It is very easy for anyone to determine the retail and/or resale value of an item, so anyone that is even remotely capable of checking pricing knows what is being offered and its value. In fact, most price discussions happen off line. So … next time I post on HB I will likely post without a price, and anyone interested can PM me and we can then discuss.

BTW, you have rules that would censor me if I posted using the above “chump” or “fleese” words, so I do not understand how it is fine for you to use this language with me.

Anyway, yes, congratulations on the good work that HB has and has doing for the coffee community; you have and continue to be helpful. But a little less regulation would be a good thing. I know that you do not wish to be FB, but perhaps a little more flexibility would be good. Your call.

I’m normally a very circumspect, calm Canadian. It takes alot to get me this angry.

I was adjusting the price to include vs exclude accessories. And to react to the market. Yes, I posted on FB and Kajiji and elsewhere, changing pricing and topic headings on the fly to encourage interest. That, and truly wanting to and actually helping people, is what great salesmanship is all about. I work for a commercial brokerage firm and we are very proud of what we do.

He needs to get a life, beyond being a “soup nazi” moderator on a cliquish forum. Wondering what his day job is.

JHCCoffee That pretty much sums up Dan and the dee dee dee ‘Team HB’ members as most are arrogant jokes. Of course when they are called out they get butthurt and that ends up in a ‘thread cooldown’, ban, etc. as they have a lame their way or the highway mentality. Some might find H-B helpful, but just a place for some self-entitled morons to hang out and put manufacturers on a pedestal.

JonWoo187 I’ve asked Home Barista to delete or close my account as there is no point posting there for me. I’ve been a member there for 17 years, but enough is enough, with questionable moderation. The point of closure is because I get a lot of people pm me privately and I don’t want them to think I am just ignoring them. The toxic comments that seem to be fair game are enough for me.

Some companies people can say anything they want about and others they will jump on and squash the thread instantly? Plus the shilling that goes on by certain people seems to be ignored, currently there is a product being shilled super hard on there…nothing has been done. This means it ends up being a forum with huge bias and something unhealthy for the consumer looking for a steer on products. I guess this is a problem when any forum is commercial, you cannot tell what really drives any of the decisions or policy.

This also goes for all the influencers, it’s all about money, whatever they say. I believe again it’s unhealthy for the coffee community, especially those just getting into it.

Yup….I’ve had enough. I will concentrate all my time and effort here on our non commercial forum, where we can help people and the only bias might be personal preferences and not hidden financial interests or pressures.

Just curious: Who (which company) actually owns HB? And who are their sponsors? This might be telling.

              Its on their about page.
