Niche Duo two burrs set

Hi guys, I’m seriously thinking about ordering a Duo in white with both burr sets, the website is saying dispatch will be the end of September, does anyone know if they dispatch sooner than that, I’m not that bothered to be honest but I’d like to know if the grinder might turn up sooner?

Following my own and other people’s experience: they never deliver late, but sometimes they are early. Mine (Zero, not Duo) was scheduled for a three month wait and was delivered right on schedule. Right after that people started getting theirs much earlier than expected. So if I were to order from them I would set my expectation to their delivery estimate, and if it came early - would be pleasantly surprised (but not shocked ;-)).

Twotone2 I’ve posted this before, but I’m super impressed with the standard 151F filter burrs in the Duo.

They yield enough body for my liking and still offer good seperation of flavor notes. Kudos to Mazzer for producing such as outstanding filter burr at such a great price (assuming one purchased them seperately).

The “super burr” for filter is reported by some to be their k151G which is some three times the price and still sitting in its box because frankly, with the 151F being so good, I’m not feeling especially motivated to try anything else 😀.

And provided you are OK with the burr swap (see @LMSC very helpul daily log on his experiences at https://coffeetime.freeflarum.com/d/1851-coffee-with-duo/116 ) then I applaud your decision to get both burr sets.

IMHO the design is pure genius and I have to admit to being upset that so many reviewers think the central idea of easy burr swapping has little merit.

Thanks for that (apologies I don’t know how to quote on here) yes I thought about just buying the espresso burrs but for another £120 you effectively get two grinders so worth it I think.

I just recently bought a load of coffee and inadvertently ordered a kg bag pre ground for filter/cafetière which was terrible it was nice coffee but there were loads of fine grounds left in the cup so in the end I ended up re-grinding the coffee for espresso so I want to be able to grind for filter myself properly.

I buy about 4kg of beans every six weeks so I spend quite a bit on coffee over the course of a year and so I want to try to get as much flavour out of the beans as I can, at the moment I don’t know if my current grinder is capable of producing nuances in the beans but if it does I can’t taste them.

Don’t get me wrong I like the coffee we drink which is mainly milk based for me and water based for my wife and traditional roasts however I’ve never been able to get decent coffee from light beans so I end up buying the same sort of beans all of the time, the favourite being Monsoon Malabar but I’d like to try different types of beans, I bought some yirgachefi beans recently and they didn’t produce what I was expecting flavour wise they were a bit meh to be honest so if the Niche can improve our coffee drinking experience I’ll be delighted and it will be money well spent however if there’s no real difference (between grinders) I’ll just move the Niche on.

Thing is with the Duo is you never need to worry ever again whether or not the grinder is up to the job. That can be a relief, having that assurance that you have one of the most capable single dose grinders on the planet.

I use Malabar for a friend who likes the choc-like flavors and fuller bodied milk drinks. I mix 50% Malabar with 50% Kenyan AA of some sort (all of the Kenyan AAs seem excelllent). Personally I prefer around 20% Malabar with 80% Kenyan.

I’ve roasted Ethiopian Yirgachefi for light roast espresso-only (non milk) and it’s been superb. But I never tried it with milk.

I guess what I’m rambling on about is that you can’t get out of a bean what’s not in it. So the grinder’s potential is always contrained by that factor. Fortunately there are a lot of knowledgeable prosumers here who share their favorite beans and roasters.

With the right beans and a Duo, you’ll really be spoilt for top quality espresso and filter.

skylark Can you not just take a credit card out that offers a decent opening deal? Lots of them do 15 months or so interest free. Then you have all the protection that Paypal offers. You can always just close your account when finished

Aye I wanted a white one initially but my wife thought the black one would be better regarding cleaning and fitting the rest of the coffee equipment.

I used an interest free credit card to pay for the DUO I got it last year to buy stuff from my daughter’s wedding (suit and etc) so have just been paying it off bit by bit monthly by direct debit my deal lasts until next May I think so hopefully I’ll clear the balance by then.

Suppose so. It would actually offer more protection than Paypal which, although it takes problems with transactions fairly well, doesn’t offer section 75 protection, unlike a credit card. I normally just bang my larger purchases on Paypal credit, allowing 4 months interest free which is usually more than enough time to clear down.

I might just do that but no hurry atm. I’ll give it a couple of months and see if i can get one before Christmas. Easier to justify 😉
