This reminds me of a part in a film (Cate &Leopold), Prince Leopold is transported to modern day America and tries using various items, one being a toaster. He tries one press and the toast is not done, second run sets off smoke alarm. Cate from flat below rushes in , fans smoke alarm and says’ everybody in America knows you have to do it 1 ½ times. The princes response is– does this Mr General Electric not know how to make toasters that work.
It is obviously a very common problem because even the hotel toasters either under or over do the toast.
It adds to the amusement of people watching .

I think the big question is… what happened to Building 7?

One of the biggest “try ons” by large corporates…and they’re getting away with it. Broad band price increases and airtime price increases. These little clauses are dreadful and go roughly.

Most Broadband -Each year, we adjust the prices of some of our products and services in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rate of inflation, plus 3.9%. Price increase of 14.3% (CPI in Dec 22 was 10.5%)

Many Mobile Plans - Each year, your Airtime Plan will be increased by the RPI rate of inflation announced in February plus 3.9%. If RPI is negative, we’ll only apply the 3.9%. You’ll see this change on your April 2023 bill onwards. Price increase of 17.3% (RPI in Dec 22 was 13.4%).

RPI is always higher number than CPI….however what these companies are really telling you is this!

  • Whatever the rate of inflation is, we will apply it, whether our costs have stayed the same, increased or reduced
  • we have absolutely no incentive to become more efficient, or compete
  • we WILL increase our profits by at least 3.9% per year guaranteed
  • you WILL have your costs increasing by at least 3.9% and if inflation drops back to 3% almost 7% per year…this WILL definitely happen

This means that if inflation drops to 3% today…for broadband your actual real world cost not including inflation will increase by 50% in almost 10 years. The amount you will be paying will actually double though. How on earth has no one complained about this, or campaigned against this. We’re just all being rinsed again by another set of corporates.

I cannot think of anything where we are not being FLEECED🤔

DavecUK How on earth has no one complained about this, or campaigned against this. We’re just all being rinsed again by another set of corporates.

I’m sure people complain, but those corporates probably have the people who make the rules in their pockets. Unfortunately, the only way to avoid this is to keep moving. It’s inconvenient, so many stay and pay.

The answer to the broadband and mobile rip off is to go for a different deal every year. I’m paying £7.20 a month for mobile down from £12 odd after the last increase and I’m paying the same as I was after the increase for double the speed broadband by changing tariffs just after the increase. (Same suppliers.)

Best Mobile for me at the moment is Smarty…£5 per month unlimited calls and texts, with free roaming for the same in Europe. Plus 4gb of data per month….which is all I really need as usually I can connect to free data in airports, exhibitions, other peoples hotspots etc..

talk mobile £7.95 per month rolling monthly with 30gb of data, im also always attached to wifi at home/work

Decent De1pro v1.45 - Niche Duo - Niche Zero - Decent is the best machine ever made -

I think I only have a few gb of data but I’ve never used it all, I couldn’t imagine ever needing 30gb!
