As per title For various reasons I'm contemplating selling the Bianca, and the zero as well as other bits and pieces and moving over to just a filter setup, with the duo being the only grinder in the house. I have a clever dripper and v60 but are there any other good filter brewers people recommend that are easier, I find v60 kettle pouring/timing a bit of a faff. Cheers jake

I'm drinking pretty much exclusively filter these days. I probably used my Orea for almost a year without looking at anything else, but at the moment I am finding the Hario Switch a very nice, easy brewer that makes delicious coffee. In combination with the Duo and the Osmio, I feel like the coffee is better than it's ever been.

I'm not sure I'd recommend any percolation only brewer if you find pouring for V60 a faff, it's really part & parcel of making a pour over. The Switch is a bit simpler to brew with than Clever, but both make good results when dialled (and the method will be a little different between the two). What kid of brew sizes & method are you using at the moment? You can make pour over brews with a Melitta 1 hole brewer/Kalita wave with a fine grind & regular kettle, long bloom & one fast pour, but you won't have any easy reference for dialling in.

You should try something with flat bottom, Kalita, April. If you prefer small caps and wants to make life easier GabiMaster A is pretty cool. And of course AeroPress, it makes delicious coffee, and is super easy to use.

I'd also note that the 02 size switch is fairly small, maybe holding about 240g of brew water at a time? If you want larger brews there is a glass 03 Hario cone, or stick with the Clever?

@"Cuprajake"#p54202 It's easier if you break the pour down into pulses (say 30s intervals, pouring each pulse within say 15seconds), but I can understand it's not appealing to everyone. I'm more the opposite, I get a bit impatient waiting for immersion brews to steep, just sitting there & prefer to be more actively engaged.

Yeah it's the whole 30g to 55s then 60g at 1:30 stuff haha I don't mind pouring Through lockdown I drank alot of filter, when I felt like I had time I've been loosing the love for espresso, and coupled with the fact the Mrs would be happy with a pod machine, having nearly £3k sat on my counter is pretty extravagant for 2 cups a day.

V60 and Clever 1 cup are my daily drivers during the last 6 weeks. If you can’t be bothered with the V60 pour regime, you might try using Clever 1 cup; powder first, pour 30-40g water to bloom for 30s, pour the rest of the water to brew for 5-6 mins and drain on a pre-heated cup. I don’t have a refractometer to measure, though it gives a lovely cup. But, I prefer using the Clever like V60 pour regime with the initial bloom phase. MWJB’s excel sheets are gold. Please take your time to review and digest. You can’t go wrong with the methods presented in his excels.

If pour overs are too much faff just stick with immersion brewers like Hario Switch, Clever or french press.

It depends how much you brew at a time, but if you are going purely for ease of use i would also recommend the switch 03. Or if you want to make larger brews you could always look at a batch brewer, very user friendly and requires no effort.

Unless it’s for financial reasons I’d definitely recommend trying it out for a while, as in going filter only before selling up.

I once did the same thing, sold everything espresso related and just kept a Baratrza Encore and V60. People advised against it. Needless to say I missed espresso a week or two later and ended up having to buy everything again…

I actually don’t miss it at all, might buy a small espresso machine next year, bit definitely going to upgrade all my filter set up.
