Large, especially insulated cafetieres can steep for a longer time with less pronounced temperature drop, Longest practical steep times for the Clever are 20-25min for the 300ml Small version (not easy to find at the minute) and about 40min for the large (about 450ml, you can squeeze a bit more in if you use a #6 filter paper).
Short steep brew video posted above.
The Clever Dripper is only made by one manufacturer (is it Abid?), Hasbean are good place to buy.
Only seen cracking on the earliest clear version (sold out years ago), not noticed it on the smoky/grey and opaque coloured versions.
To be honest, I’m preferring the workflow & brews at shorter steep times with the Hario Switch 02 (240ml, I believe they do an 03 version). But some the most memorable brews I have had were long steep Clever brews.
The Clever makes a good cold brewer too.
The cafetiere really wins when brewing larger amounts.
Even with paper filters, some tiny fines pass through into the brew, more likely when using very fine/coarse espresso grinds.
