I have 2 of these Cafelat mats, which are 5.5 × 8 inches each. I use them side by side. But they slip, as the bottom is hard rubber. And they are not particularly attractive, which would be a bonus. I’d also like a mat that would trap the inevitable stray coffee grounds. Any suggestions? What do you use?

Controversially I stopped using a tamping mat a few months ago and haven’t noticed any downsides. Probably not recommended on a wooden worktop but mine is still spotless (as is the bottom of the PF) despite probably 200 tamps or more.

This is why I ditched mine. It’s easier to wipe down the work surface quickly after each coffee than scrub the tamping mats or leave them that awful shade of black/brown they seem to become.

I use a rubber hockey puck.

It has the benefit of being relatively small (though larger in diameter than a 58mm portafilter), black and unobtrusive, and easy to pack away in a drawer.

I recently grew tired of the silicone pot holders I have been using for years and looked at various mats to replace them. Finally found the perfect type for my use and it doesn’t disappoint. Perfect size, thick silicone, good grip on the material I covered my cart with, etc. It’s actually titled as being a spoon rest on Scamazon, but whatever as it does exactly what I expect it to and wasn’t too costly.

Joe frex, built like a tank, 4mm stainless. No flex.
Been using about 5 years. Rubber getting marked as I sit bottomless pf on it. Guess it would be as new if I used a spouted pf.

    About Me

Adrianmsmith Yep JoeFrex items are simply top notch and one of the best purchases I’ve made over the years. Where else can you find a precise/high quality 2.5 lb palm tamper for the price point? The silicone/rubber parts do come off and I would hope/imagine are available as replacement items.

They do come off but don’t seem too popular in the UK
Think mine was originally from A but can’t find it currently.
Can’t find a UK supplier for spare parts.

Wondered about slicing off the raised portion for now.
And then replace it if I “F” it up doing so!!

Currently the below seemed a bargain if anyone looking!!

        About Me

I use this stand, made for 58mm portafilters but the 54mm ACS portifilter still fits.
