Accurate scale that doesn’t break the bank

Coffee pals:

I have some cheap scales for measuring my coffee doses and my pulls. They seem to drift 0.1-0.3 gm when measuring the beans. Now, obviously a first world problem, but it would be nice to have a scale that drifted less while measuring. I am hoping to find something well under $100 US that would do the trick. Any recommendations?

dndrich Pretty much any 0.1g resolution scales will be fine for weighing the pulls. For dosing find some cheap 0.01g scales that will take your dosing cup/blind tumbler. You can probably find both for less that your budget.

MWJB well that is a good thought. The 0.1 scales I have are fine for the pull. I have a cheap 0.01 scale I should get out and try again.

Like my timemore black mirror basic + a lot. Fast, accurate (enough), reliable, well built. It is certainly not head to head with an Acaia, but for less than 40$ it is as good as it gets

If you only use it to measure beans most of cheap scales will work great.
If you use it to measure coffee while brewing the important factor is how responsive it is.

Timemore black mirror is very good for the price. I used it for near two years without issues. If you want to spend a bit more the difluid microbalance scales is great. I had it for over a year now it’s very responsive and measures from 0.2g. It’s can be used with an app for more in-depth info or as a ‘dumb’ scale perfectly showing weight, flow rate and optionally time.

I’ll put a second vote for the yagua scales. I bought a set and was so impressed I bought a second one to have in as a spare!!

I’ll 2nd the Microbalance. Very well built, very responsive, and its firmware and app is regularly updated. The app is also decent.

I found the buttons and interface on the Timemore Black Nano very difficult/frustrating to use. The instructions were also poor. But thats just my experience. Many people like it. I sold mine.

The only thing about the MicroBalance is that it is not micro in size. So if you are looking for thin and small, look for something else.

Then there is the Tiny2S. Small, accurate, responsive and cheap. The controls and instructions can be abit frustrating, but you can’t beat the price. I bought mine on Amazon, just in case I had to return it. The unit was defective, and Amazon fully refunded me. I’ll probably buy another one, for travel.

There is also the Skale, which is abit plasticy, but interfaces well with its app, and with my Decent. The top also comes off, for cleaning, which is handy. I glued a silicone mesh mat to the top, to keep my espresso cup from vibrating off the Skale. The Decent does vibrate abit, which is a very small design issue that I am happy to live with.
