  • Second hand Niche Zero - any issue?

Hi - first post alert so please be patient!!

I would like to purchase a pre owned NZ and a couple of questions have popped into my mind whilst searching.

Is there anything different between the early/first generation NZ that I should look out for and where there any improvements in the more recent models?

Also, (I know it’s ‘how long is a ball of string’ question depending how much use it’s had!) but should I be concerned about the burrs being worn out as a brief search shows that should they need to be replaced they appear to be a large chunk of the purchase price. Obviously, if the burr wear is an issue that might push me into buying a new one.

Many thanks. Jules

No, for the average user the burrs will last 15-20 years.

Thanks for the quick reply Dave! That’s very helpful.

Do you by any chance know if Niche changed anything from the early model to the newer ones made in the last year or so?

Not really, the only addition…and it was a long time ago now was the flow control disk.

Mzee - irrelevant to an extent as the product is exactly the same, but the other point to note is that very early ones were made (or at least assembled) in the UK.

Thanks again! Interesting to hear that the early ones were UK assembled. That used to be a good thing so I’ll take that as a positive point! Now to decide the thorny issue of black or white!😀

              Edit - I’ve found it!!

Mine was from the first “full Chinese” batch. Never had any issues

If one of these early ones was to become available is there any identification, or can it be determined from the serial number.

                There shouldn’t!!

The question about identifying the “hand assembled in Britain” was just in case they had some kind of “special” appeal. Nothing else.

Ive never had an issue with either niche. Including never having “that bolt” come loose . And grind has always been consistent .

Yeah, there’s a label on them. From memory, it reads “Made in China. Assembled in Great Britain”. It definitely does not say “Made in GB”.

The label is at the bottom of the grinder - again, from memory.

I’m kicking myself now - I should have taken a photo before I sold it. I remember reading it, and writing it down somewhere. Just don’t remember where! LOL

dfk41 - That’s it! Thanks for that. I was pretty sure it didn’t have the word “Made” in them, I just couldn’t remember the exact terms used. And yes, I remember now, I didn’t have “China” mentioned at all. That’s in the Duo.

MediumRoastSteam I had an English launch model…..a friend ‘borrowed’ it in the days I had loads of grinders. I never got it back. I was sent a replacement very kindly, but it was Chinese. I really wanted an English made one (yes, I know) so I think it was @Rob1 very kindly sold me his original….so, equilibrium was restored. I then sold my Chinese one.
