Hello!
I’ve been working through what it would take to create a dimmer mod that has the simplest wiring possible. DaveC already suggested the voltage controller, which was half the battle. I am now working through how this should all fit together, and would really appreciate if someone could look over the proposal below. I will edit this post at the end to become a bit of a user manual.
Items I have bought:
Crimping tool
Male and female spades (B&Q) just make sure you get the correct size for the cable you purchase
3 way electrical cable - the power cable on the Gene cafe is 0.75mm (I bought 1.5mm so am using that)
Voltage control unit - https://tinyurl.com/25twjjdr
Electrical Tape
Electricity usage monitor power plug
The schematic I propose is below. I’ll do this in paint once confirmed it is correct!

The steps:
Remove the fuse from the entry point and tape elsewhere
Cable routing goes through the fuse entry point:
The blue cable goes from Power PCB (1) in Gene Cafe to the input L (1) in the voltage control unit
The brown cable goes from output L (2) in the voltage control unit to the heater (2) in the Gene Cafe
This is the inside of the Gene cafe with the labelled connections that are to be moved

This is the voltage control unit with labelled connections related to the Gene cafe wires the one goes to the one, the two to the two as I describe above.

- The wall plug of the Gene cafe is then connected to a electricity usage monitor power plug
Does this all look correct? The two questions I have:
- This will leave two spade halves in the machine empty, can I confirm that is correct?
- How significant a wattage loss will I likely get from not having an on off switch?
Many thanks for any comments in advance!
Dan
