Legendofthejive The box has specs indicated on the outside including tick boxes for type of burrs included. These have not been ticked so I assume stock burrs unless anyone on the forum can tell different from the pics. The seller did say they were stock so assume that’s the case. I am happy regardless as I think I got a good deal.

You’ve done well with the burrs, not SSP but looks like the TiN/TiCN coated Italmills. These were offered as an optíonal upgrade for the DF64’s stock Italmills originally, but as far as I’m aware they will give you the same general taste profile with the harder coating. You don’t really see these now as DFs ship with their own manufactured burrs, with DLC now offered as the premium coating.

I saw in an earlier post you mentioned that you used the variable speed instead of the bellows to ensure less retention. I prefer the look without bellows, did you increase the speed once most of the grinds were out or decrease? I would like to try this so the bellows don’t have to be used - thanks

Yes once it’s finished grinding the beans just speed it up for a few secs and slow it down and repeat a few times, or just keep it at the highest rpm whatever you find works best!

dang2484 also I picked up a cheap pair of used 64mm dlc burrs on eBay so will report back if those fit once they arrive, apparently they’re midway between the traditional taste of the Mazzers and the more modern, brighter flavour presentation of the SSP HU.

FadedFrontiers cheers, be good to know we’ve got more burr options. I’ve ordered the mazzer SJ burrs and should get them in a couple of days so I’ll swap findings 👍

dang2484 finally measured the SSPs, 37mm internal and 8.5mm deep which seems to match the mazzer SJ burr size on the Internet

So the 8.5mm is irrelevant as that just will alter the zero adjustment.

The bit that matters is the flange depth as that will dictate the o ring size.

For the 189d and 200d the internal is 37.00 and the flange is 1.4mm but thats a bit trickier to get an accurate measurement without slip blocks and only having my trusty tape measure to hand (ok i lie kennedy vernier!! But still about as accurate as our favourite influencer with a dial indicator gauge.).

So looks like mazzer SJ burrs do fit albeit, the upper burr carrier needed a little file as it factionally too tight.

Only run some of stale beans to test a shot and pulled ok 🤞

The geometry doesn’t seem to dissimilar to the SSP burrs so I don’t know if it’ll make much difference 🤔

I have just removed the SSP from the philos and gone back to the i200 burrs. So measured the SSP at the same time

Interestingly, these are 38 mm internal. They are SSP espresso red and the internal flange depth is 2 mm

That seems to be its only purpose as with the original ring for the mazzer burrs.

I’m having grind setting problems in dosing my espresso grounds. I was using it on setting 65 for pour over. I switched it to 15 to do espresso and the grounds are all messed up, chunkier, coarser and uneven. I think I got a bean or two stuck in the burrs because I can hear rattling. I’ve tried rotating it in a couple different ways but now i’m lost at sea. What may I be doing wrong here?

Quick update. I sat myself down and said you can do this. Be smarter. You can see in my photo there is a bit of silver thread showing where the grind settings are. I think i needed to tighten it more by rotating it back in more. The turning mechanism is both used for the grind settings and to screw or unscrew that part on or off. I think i got it to grind more consistently now.

Unscrew it completely and lift off, throughly clean out the grind chamber then recalibrate.

Interesting observation on this T64. The grinder leaves about 0.2 to 0.3 grams in the chamber as that last amount needs some extra gravity to take it through the chamber a couple mins after i turn off the grinder. As such, i either grind 18.4g and let that amount sit in the grinder (and purge before next use or use in the next use) or i wait a minute or two, turn the grinder back on and get that last 0.2g or so out. Or third option, don’t worry about it. Any of you have this experience or notice this? Just flagging my experience.

gregE I’ve removed the protector in the chamber and covered the holes with electrical tape which seems to reduce grounds from that side but a couple of knocks and puffs generally gets it all out.

gregE that amount sounds about right, it’s pretty standard for single dose grinders in my experience . As long as it isn’t significantly impacting shot consistency you’ll be good! I weigh in and don’t bother to weigh what I get out, I just rev the rpm dial at the end to get any final grinds out.

Tal I do have the bellows. That is even after this. I use the bellows near the end of the grinding.
