Thought you might find this guide to pouring espresso informative, as it provides detailed guidance on all brew parameters for each phase of the shot, for various roast levels and taste objectives. It also addresses how to correct shot faults. All in easy to read graphs and tables. I have it in PDF format if someone can show me how and where to upload it.

What a great resource. I am plagued with sour (lemon) shots (under-extraction I believe) with light-medium roasts and this should give me a lot of data points to measure and compare with the helpful tables shown. I would like the pdf if it is available please.

FYI, the temperatures shown in the guide are measured at the grouphead, which is one of two temperature measurements provided by the Decent DE1, the other being the temperature of the water at its heating source.

There is an estimated difference of 5 degrees between the temperature of the water in the brew boiler (of machines with boilers) and the temperature at the grouphead. The DE1 does not have a brew or service boiler.

Not strictly true. It can be 5 degrees, it can be 10, it can be 15, depending on the machine.

Good point. I just wanted to let folks know that the temperatures shown in the chart are grouphead temps. Everyone will have a different difference in temperature between their boiler and their grouphead.
