Hi all,
Probably not the place, but I need advice and to vent a bit
My son is now 12, he went to high school this year, and is really struggling with the transition.
He’s gone from his last year at primary school having a 100% attendance, along with his sister they were 2 of around 5 kids to do so, to this last term not competing a full week
Each term he’s had a wobble, but settled down, but this term something has clicked, they have changed routine and now instead of moving from class to class the kids now stop in the same room, and the teacher rotate, when not a substitute!
They have them line outside, then get them into class however these lineups can take 20mins
School have stepped in and allowed his to go into learning support, he’s now got a key worker and senco. They do encourage going back to class, but he’s very stubborn, and he’s spent multiple mornings sat in bed in tears not wanting to come in, it breaks my heart.
In terms of my son we have thought he’s in the spectrum since a child, he’s had speech therapy twice as a youngster. Each time dismissed as he didn’t seem bothered, how ever that’s how he is, won’t say please or thank you, hello or good bye, he has no compassion and can’t regulate emotions at all. We have tried and tried then COVID killed all help the issue is as a clever boy who gets a and B grades he knows he can just scrape buy, I personally think he has odd.
The school have screened and passes stuff on ,but there’s huge waiting lists
After 3 weeks of pushing for a meeting we got a meeting they tried to rearrange which we wouldn’t let them, senco was happy for him to come in, do learning support, but was very pushy for a third lesson , which he agreed to, but this morning was upset and wouldn’t go in
He says there’s no bullying, doesn’t want to go to another school, he wants home schooling, 😭 apparently all schools are shite
Were at a crossroads now and my fear is he’s going to straighten out or turn into a little Scroat.
When we went for the meeting there were kids sat on the floor in the corridor, in lesson time , and in the meeting these kids were looking through the window flipping the bird🤯 the school is failing, the senco admitted they are under funded, under staffed and have issues with kids
I feel like we’ve failed him sending him there, but we felt of the 3 schools we had to choose from this would be the best for mental health, the other to pushy for exam results.
Any ideas what I can do, as we’re now at the stage of home schooling being the only option.
GP brushes is to school, school say health service and it’s a circle.
I’m bricking it for a knock on the door from social services 😭😭😭
We thought we had turned a corner family wise, our daughter has just come off epilepsy medication.
Cheers Jake
