I have a very narrow focus it seems when it comes to coffee!
I Love espresso based milk drinks, cant drink Espresso straight. My wife on the other hand is dairy intolerant and has Americano, and currently only with Decaf!
I’ve been told its my equipment that’s poo not my taste buds but nor sure i agree with him!!
Normally I order 1KG of my “go-to” beans and a 250g of something different to try. Normally all single origin.
I recently got a bag of coffeelink Ethiopia Illubabor forest Anaerobic, now, different it certainly is.
I am actually able to drink it as “Espresso” if i dilute it 42g shot + 20g or so water, BUT its a bit (lot) too much “fruity?” and too far away from my “Columbian’s” .
I tend to stick to medium roasts, finding darker or Italian roasts too “Bitter?”.
I have difficulty describing taste!
So i got to thinking to help he drink this bag, what would it be like as a 50:50 with my current Columbian?
to the point!…..
when you purchase a blend its done in the roastery and all in the bag so do the actually blend coffees that would dial in the same or is dialling it in a compromise.
The Ethiopian beans are ⅔ the size of the Columbian and require quite different grind setting as well.
so I’ve been weighing out 10.75g or each and grinding each separately then adding them together and shaking prior to ( wdt, levelling, chanting and offering myself to the coffee gods) errr, no just tamping and brewing!!
As a latte this is still obviously different but a good way to finish this bag off. Quite mice actually.
Does anyone else blend like this or have any opinion on the subject.
Also does anyone have any suggestions (to purchase in the UK) for something i should be trying to tune my taste buds in to espresso . I guess fruity but not to the extreme.
thanks
Ade
