I've been enjoying making coffee with Elizabeth for a almost half a year now. Few days ago though, I started hearing like a strong boiling sound coming from the machine and when I checked the steam temperature, it was at about 167\*C. All advanced settings are exactly the same as the ones Dave recommends. And steam temperature has never hiked that much before. Somehow it feels like it's registering a lower/normal temperature when the actual temperature is higher. And then temperature jumps on the display too. Recorded 2 situations, when temperature jumped straight to above 160 from 137. And another smaller jump up and down. Could it be a faulty temperature probe or maybe just a loose contact? It's not always doing this. faulty temp sensor….just change it.

I have never really looked at this machine in detail, but it seems to punch way above its weight. Apart from size and looks, what else goes against it? For the average home user, I can discount the small boilers. Does it steam ok? Will it make 3 drinks on the trot?

@"dfk41"#p70256 that’s exactly what I do every day 3 milk based drinks one after the other AND I steam at the same time as pulling the shots.

I pull 2 every day and make lattes steaming milk while pulling the shots back to back. When friends and family are visiting I can pull 4-5 in a row just like a coffee house. I’ve had mine 2 1/2 years now and going strong. I really appreciate the design, ease of use, work flow, and easy maintenance and cleaning routine. The machine is a winner.

@"dndrich"#p70265 totally agree. I keep thinking to myself I want to upgrade. But then when I see what’s out there… it’s either spending 3x or 4x the price of the Elizabeth…. And, and this point… it’s marginal gains. Lizzy is a winner.

@"MediumRoastSteam"#p70266 right. And the livability is key. The quality of the pull, well, I can’t imagine I could taste a difference from what I am getting now, which is terrific. The machine is so easy to care for. I run cleaner cycle every week and don’t have to worry about lubricating an e 61 for example. I flush the steam boiler every 2 weeks. I drop the screen once in a while but it is always clean. I have had to make a few repairs, and the machine is very easy to service. Now I am not a hobbyist like some, so they may not like this machine. I want a consistent pull no muss no fuss. And my spouse can make herself a latte too once in a while without having a big learning curve. Combined with my Niche Zero and I am set. No upgraditis for me.

Overall, it was a machine with great value for money for me. I could not have done better at that price point. However they should source their steam valve components from a more reliable supplier. And if it doesn’t unduly affect their price point, they could improve the design of afew things, including the OPV to make it more easily accessible and adjustable. And improve the design of the steam knob compression fitting, which unless you have the touch of a butterfly, will begin leak. And the design of the top access panel; removing and reinstalling it was a pain. So great VFM, but (hindsight being 20/20) I would have waited and saved for a Bianca. Bottom line. It is a well designed, consumer priced machine. Which means that some parts will (by definition) not be as well made as they could be. They also could do better in their quality control testing. You get what you pay for. Btw, it does hold its resale value, as I was able to resell it for about half of the cost of the gently used Decent I subsequently bought.

I take you have never owned an E61 machine :) - you’ll find that some of us here, me including, went for the Elizabeth for the very reason that a lever operated E61 group requires periodic maintenance. Combined with larger boilers, it might not be the the choice for everyone. I remember back in the day being “in love” with the E61 group. What a wonderful piece of engineering. After owning one, and many years gone past since, I wouldn’t buy it again, personally speaking. I agree with your other points.

When I get bored of mine I’ll advertise here. Truth be told… at the moment, there isn’t anything I’d replace her with. I quite fancy a Decent… or a LMLM… I’m just not a fan of their price. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

MediumRoastSteam You’ll get bored. I remember you once had a Pro-700 and sold it because it was just “boring”.

I did indeed, but remember, in those days I was comparing the 700 to everything else. The boring monicker was meant as a compliment to German engineering. My needs these days are far simpler. I do not want anything complicated. No flow paddles, no programming of buttons with endless permutations as my mind is not able to absorb the data.

I am nearly at decision time now. I just have to jump!

Fyi, I started with a Breville Duo Pro, which I fully modded (dimmer, brass water distribution plate, IMS baskets and screen, bottomless PTF). It died way too soon. Cheep parts.

Then bought a Silva, with the add on controller (as sold by the retailer). Solid machine but the retailer couldn’t get the controller to work. Returned it and bought the LE based upon recommendations from this Forum.

Used the LE for a year or so, sold it and bought the Decent.

The Liz is a great wee machine and I’d have had one over the Bianca but just couldn’t get past the plain looks.

I like the fact it has small boilers , compact footprint and it just works. There’s no way I’d be able to tell the difference between a shot from it against the Bianca.

I got mine after the Gaggia Classic as at the time we didn’t want the traditional cafe look and have to say it’s been brilliant with just a couple of small issues that were easy to deal with. It is dead easy to use and other family members found it that way too I’ve actually gone the other way recently as I’ve never had a traditional machine and space is also an issue. I’ve finally found an ECM Mechanika Slim and put the Elizabeth in the loft for our son when he gets his own place. We only make 2 or 3 milk based drinks in the AM so the ECM does those easily.

As for me… I bought the Elizabeth after owning a La Pavoni, which prior to that I had a Profitec Pro-700.

The Pro-700 was a lot of machine for me - 1 coffee first thing in the morning and another one after lunch when not at work. Having to wait 40 odd minutes for the machine to heat up didn’t work out with my routine. I wanted to have a coffee when I wanted a coffee, not 45 minutes after the timer was programmed to turn the machine on.

So I then bought the La Pavoni which warmed up in less than 10 minutes - but after a few years got bored of having to deal with spongy pulls, temp surfing, lubricating the piston, and rubbish steaming out of the box.

And then the Elizabeth V2 was announced. I pre-ordered and sold the Pavoni. For what I need, I can’t fault the machine.
