WDT vs Blind Shaker

I keep changing between the 2 and don’t really notice a difference in taste despite all the scientific tests that say Blind Shaker is better.

WDT is less messy and a much easier workflow for me. What does everyone else do? … oh and am not talking about blind shaking then raking use WDT (that would mean you use Blind Shaker) …

drdre89 I’m the same, I’ve done both but don’t notice any discernible difference between them taste wise. I’ve also shaken with the portafilter and grinds cup attached if that still counts as ‘shaker’ but find I have to WDT after.

Maybe it makes no difference unless you’re a YouTube coffee super taster!! 🤔

It matters not if you can’t taste a difference . You need to taste a difference to change what you do or upgrade anything??

I do both. Afte using rhe blind shaker, I use a rotating wdt tool (non spirographic) to rake the top layer of the puck before tapping it vertically on the mat and then tamping.

I do both but definitely not if I’m making coffee for family or friends, tbh I would feel a bit ridiculous swishing coffee with prongs or chiming the Tibetan singing bowl especially if they then though the coffee was ****** awful! I would never live it down! 😆

I use the Niche grind cup inserted in to the Robot portafilter, shake vigorously a few seconds, tamp and brew. No WDT anymore and tastes good to me.

I’m not convinced either is that important since using EK43.
I’ll get the bed level, but that’s about it 🤷‍♂️

I tried a blind shaker knock-off (after being seduced by Lance’s hype). I found that it introduced alot of variability in puck density, as I found it challenging to exactly replicate the same shake every time. The shaker now sits in my basement box of other misspent accessories.

It works for many folks, just not for me.

JHCCoffee Most of the garbage on YT is hype as what works for one person in their controlled setting might be a joke for many others attempting the same. There’s a ton of changing variables with espresso and simply find what works best overall with your setup/preference in taste/texture and stick with it. No telling how much the influencers (a.k.a. bullshit artists in some cases) get in financial kickback and how much is spent on near worthless gadgets that end up shoved in a drawer in a short period of time.
