OK, I am a little familiar with the 2 group machine.
The solenoids on the group have 2 functions
pulls in when the pump runs and effectively seals the group and also opens the way to the group, hence the double porting (FC125/1)
The water not coming out of the group could have been a problem with the group jet, but is more likely to be a solenoid issue. This is because the 2 thermosyphon pipes are to heat the groups, but unlike a normal E61, the solenoid controls flow. This is so when the pump runs, only the group with the solenoid pulled high dispenses water.
So the problem could be, in order of probability:
Solenoid full of scale blocking the ports (disassemble, check and clean, also make sure the nucleus is moving freely)
Loose wire on main board for EV1 or EV1, or the non working group touchpad connection is loose. Possibly even broken wires, or corroded joint, sometimes removal/refit cures it.
Touch Pad fault
Swell6 There’s 2 tubes, an upper and a lower - not sure which is the feed to the group head?
With the group head removed, but the group solenoid connected electrically, when I press the start button, there’s a click from the group solenoid, and the pump starts running. I imagine that in theory water should flow from the open ended feed tube whenever the pump is activated?
However, this last quote from your post puts the top 3 usual reasons in doubt. The upper and lower tubes are for the thermosyphon and when the pump runs both are pressurised. If you’re pressing the start button and the pump is running, then 1,2 and 3 above are all probably working correctly. There is only one other solenoid that could cause this and that’s the boiler autofill solenoid
But you say the other group works, so this means boiler autofill solenoid is working fine
This leads to only 3 possibilities,
- Both thermosyphon tubes from the boiler are completely blocked (unlikely)
- HX unit is split and when you use the non working group water goes into the boiler (definitely not as nothing comes out of open tubes normally attached to the group
- Flow meter/pipes so blocked with scale, no water is getting through.
One interesting thing, you say it sat for 6 months, the implication being it was your machine and you stored it for 6 months. However, I am wondering if you bought it used and were told it was stored for 6 months? When was it last descaled, has it ever been descaled, who did it?
