A Cafelat Robot showed up on my doorstep this week, not out of need, but pure curiosity. It is quite an interesting little device I must say. I’m still getting used to the workflow, but what I noticed after doing some comparison shot tasting from a Vesuvius and a Minima, is that assuming you have good beans, a good grinder and prep, the taste of the shot is closer to the Vesuvius than a flat-9 bar pull on a Minima.
While it isn’t exactly dirt cheap, it is a heck of a lot more affordable than any other pressure profilers, or sophisticated levers. Milk-based drinkers (myself included) would need to find an alternative, but so far it seems to be a great little unit to experiment with.
