As you may know from a previous thread, I am looking at getting a new tamper (but definitely NOT from AliExpress!) one that is sprung to try and improve my consistency in tamping. The obvious choices are Normcore and MHW-3Bomber. But here’s the question.
Flat base, grooved base, convex base? And does it really make any difference?
Just thinking aloud, I thought the idea of good tamping apart from nice even pressure and being dead level is an even surface. Which seems if using a ridged/grooved base and a convex base goes against that. Both Normcore and MHW-3Bomber offer flat and grooved (not seen them offer convex) so it makes me wonder if there is something in it or is it just pandering to a fad?
So, peeps. What are your thoughts/experiences?
