New Acaia scale without a display

I’ve just seen this pop up. Guessing it’s really for those who can connect it to their machine and new by weight. Interesting addition to the product line up.

I can see this being unpopular for obvious reasons but I might actually buy one. It’s clearly geared toward commercial situations that don’t use volumetric brewing. The Pearl is very commonly used in coffee shops.

I have the Pearl which I really like and did order a Lunar recently but the retailer cancelled due to no stock and I haven’t bought another yet.

I tried a lower cost alternative which was DoA so sent that back. This new Lunar looks like it might be worth a go.

I like the idea of being able to leave the espresso scale on the drip tray and using the Pearl to weight doses etc.

HarveyMushman since posting I watch led the video on their site and liked the example of using the pearl to measure the pour whilst also measuring the second dose of beans out. That would be a nice addition to my workflow 👌

I can see this pairing well with a decent, the arc i have tbf have been great years old now and been charged maybe 🤔 3 times

The most amazing thing about this post is that it’s been up 2 hours and nobody’s said that you can do the same job with a pair of £7 Amazon scales.

HarveyMushman you can do the same with £7 amazon scales and some insulation tape 😜 i mean £150 for scales is ridiculous 😂

Adrianmsmith it seems to also galve the weight it goes too 1kg not 2 (though not a biggy for espresso 😂)

The lunar does now seem really expensive - sure i paid nothing like that when I bought mine

If I wanted something of that for factor, I’d get a BooKoo, which look really cool. I’m not a huge fan of Acaia

Yeah that’s the one I tried as I agree it looks good.

It was faulty on arrival and I had a bit of a mare sending it back. May well have been a one-off but it didn’t give me a lot of faith.

Interesting idea but seems like a narrow range of uses, would prefer they just had a programmable on-off display. I mean how much more would it cost to add some led too! But realistically that would then undercut the Lunar by £100.

Plus you just know Acaia are dropping at least one new app for this thing 😂

I wonder if it works with the Linea Mini/Micra to do the target weight auto-stop thing. Guessing not, given the price difference between that and the LM version of the Lunar.

HarveyMushman There is probably some firmware change for that version to link to the LM’s - though does the micra offer that at all ? Way overpriced imho but that’s the LM way like for its previous rebadged grinders.

So having a quick look and you can get the Lunar for about £290 (Hamlet) - which in the uk almost matches the euro price on the acaia euro website ( I assume if you ordered direct VAT would be added on arrival).

It will be interesting to see how the umbra lunar is priced once other stockists have it in the UK.

I was just highlighting costs :) and yes its all a bit crazy.. but hey you can also buy £200 baskets or WDT tools… its like any hobbies there will be all price points catered for….

Wasnt complaining about the price, just a haha. Im a lunar owner and love it . Bullet proof and consistently accurate. rarely use it now other than weighing beans.

They do appear to remove VAT for UK orders so it’s £108 + about £27 shipping then fees on top when it arrives.

Ok, shipping was actually free so it cost £108 all in.

Assuming 20% + a bit in fees on that when it lands, it’s not too bad.

Still ridiculous for a scale with no display but I’m way past ridiculous purchases by this point.

I’ve been trying to suss if it works with the older Pearl models, but haven’t been successful yet.

Oh gosh yeah I didn’t think about that… when was the ‘older’ Pearl released? I’ve had mine a while.

HarveyMushman no idea, I just know mine isn’t the current model with the little dots running across the top of the display. I’ve had mine 6 or 7 years I think.
