New espresso basket design

How about if, instead of the holes of the basket being on the bottom, the holes are all around the side of the basket instead.m, while the bottom is completely flat with no holes. Wouldn’t this be an ingenious design for better tasting espresso ? ✨

extraction wouldnt be even, you need the water to push through the bed, water would find the path of least resitance

Puck would be placed vertically like a disc and a new espresso machine / portafilter design would need to be made.

I guess the closest thing to this idea are the Spinn/Nespresso Vertuo, centrifugal brewers.

A traditional basket, mounted vertically, will suffer the issues already raised. Remember that prior to full pressure, the basket will fill/wet under low pressure, water will favour the lower regions and extraction will favour the wetter, more permeable grinds…sounds like a recipe for catastrophic channelling.
