Filter Roasts For Espresso And Grinder Longevity

Does anyone else ever consider their grinder health when grinding extremely light, dense filter roasts close to touch point repeatedly?

It seems grinding close to zero is to be expected with large flat burrs and really light roasts but how much more strain on the motor/components and wear to the burrs could this cause or am I just over thinking it?

I’ve never had a grinder stall as yet and dose very slowly with really light roasts 🤞

I pull light roast at 8-10 on the duo and this is with a ulc profile on the decent 45g in 12s

I also pull at 2 on the duo and pull a traditional 35g in 25-30s

The mazzer burrs will take it,

Yeah I’d agree it’s probably dependent.

I’ve never had to go below ‘12’ on the Philos and true zero is somewhere beyond zero on mine.

The motor is also ridiculously torquey though and it’s marketed as commercial so it seems unlikely to be at risk.

I know some people have cold started green beans on the Niche Duo so that seems fairly robust too.

Given most of the popular burrs these days started life as commercial burrs I’d say any increase in wear from lighter roasts would be minimal.
