I like mine too and use it regularly. It comes into its element and is much for forgiving for the beans that want to be ground really fine or only work as a turbo type shot. I can really coursen the grind making things a bit more controllable.

I’m the same, I haven’t used the standard 58mm basket since I got the 46mm. Shots are far more consistent and drinkable. The only annoying thing (minor at best) is having to use the spring and not so easy to get shower screen to fit, but it certainly not enough of a faff to not use it!

I actually don’t own the spring. It wasn’t a thing, or wasn’t available, when I bought the basket. I bought the whole kit: tamper, funnel, basket and screen. But the spring wasn’t there.

Is it worth it? Does it make much of a difference?

MediumRoastSteam same, I did the kickstarter so didnt get the spring at the time but had trouble with dark roast coffees, which is why I think he come up with the spring to compress the puck.

It definitely made a difference to dark roasts but I use it with every shot regardless for a cleaner puck.

dang2484 - how many grams do you put in the basket? I put 19g, and the screen on top. They are not messy at all and come up in one piece. What’s your experience?

MediumRoastSteam oh ok, I only use 14 or 16 grams and was finding they were coming out in a bit of a mush. I’ve not really tried it since without the spring even with medium roasts, but might be alright with lighter roasts.

Actually, I’m sure i saw a video of the guy just using the spring (with shower screen) without tamping beforehand and it came out the same. Might actually give that a go tomorrow! One less thing to do 😂

This has become a regular for me as well. I did get the spring afterwards as it’s useful without lower doses like 16/14 g etc .

Yeah the Graph website as @LMSC mentioned. Tried it today with just the spring and no tamping and actually worked fine and didnt notice any difference! Bonus!

Although, just got the new Fellow machine so I’m a little hesitant to use it on that!

Got this delivered on Thursday.

Tilted Coffee Kenyan—always been a solid, no-drama kind of coffee.

Tried it with the Graph basket: 18g, started at 15 rather than the default 10 on the Duo. Came out thick, juicy, properly syrupy… definitely a step up from the standard 58 basket.

Defo a keeper—but not gonna lie, it’s a bit of a faff. Loads of water just chilling on top, and it seems to want more than the usual 18g to keep that under control. Bit needy, this one 😄

LMSC - that’s correct. The water issue… meh. Dump it and leave it to dry for 5 minutes or so. Granted you can’t just have two shots in a row… but did you use the spring?

A lot of grounds on the surface of the basket, which is also a faff to get them in. 🙄😂

LMSC - I don’t have the spring either. Others in this thread have said it works well for smaller doses, allowing for the puck to keep integral.

And for the coffee grounds on the upper surface of the basket: you can use their provided funnel, or, you can tap the basket to move the grounds towards the centre. That’s what I do. I do all the prep with the basket outside of the portafilter, it’s a lot easier.

I got a spring for my AliExpress step down basket and it helps preserve the integrity of the puck, I didn’t initially have any issues but recently I was getting a lot of spraying and wetter pucks but the spring has solved the issue as isn’t much additional faff

Dusk Interesting! I wonder what difference the spring makes to the puck. I can think of it compressing to give a dry puck. A sure it can’t rid of the swimming pool. 😊

LMSC there’s definitely still a swimming pool on top but the puck is firmer. I can’t think exactly why as I’m tamping the same and the pressure of the water should be compressing the coffee. Maybe it’s just when the pressure is released at the end of the shot, the spring stops the coffee expanding
