I’ve just ordered the 58:36 graph. I’ve been using single VST 7g 41mm for years so wondering if this can be any better in producing single shots. I’m really impressed with 58:46 graph but nothing ever came close to producing single shots as good and consistent as the VST 7g

prezes I just saw that pop up on my Instrgram! Interesting, I’ve used the La Marzocco single basket which always gave good shots, but interesting to see what you think.

Received the basket on Friday and have been testing over the weekend.
Using same dose as with vst single so 7.5g I have to ground about ⅚ marks coarser on the Philos (10 marks coarser on 58:46 basket with 15g dose as a comparable).

Too early to say anything for certain obviously but getting really tasty shots. The only issue I can see at the moment is not getting steady flowing pour every time. Sometimes it dribbles a lot, on other occasion getting two separate streams etc. The total time of the shot is what I’m aiming for and taste is great which is what matters I suppose.

I’m wondering if the spring provided with the kit compresses the puck too much ? Tried a shot without the spring which run super fast…

After another week of using this basket I must admit I’m delighted with it!
I had my doubts if it will be as good as the vst but it’s better. Very consistent shot to shot, no soggy pucks and most importantly coffee is amazing.

I bought a 49mm basket to try out but found myself back with the 46mm for better flavour and consistency. Also the 49mm pulls very fast compared to the 46mm so have to grind much finer.

The only trouble is it’s at minimum a 16g-18g basket, and quite like smaller dosages. It says 7-14g, but can you actually get 14g in?

dang2484 I’m in the same boat as you. Much rather have ⅚ singles in a day than limit myself to ⅔ doubles.

I will try 14g and will let you know. Mainly use 7.5-7.8 daily, had one go with 10g and there was still enough room.

I find 18g with 40g espresso too little! haha

LMSC I recently found myself over-caffeinated drinking 3 doubles + ½ singles a day unfortunately. Enjoy the process too much to have ½ so single is the way to go and with this basket the shots are really flavourful !

LMSC is be off my nut with 3 of those a day! Plus I can use less coffee with smaller doses, especially with the price going up!

dang2484 so the basket fits 14g but I didn’t put the spring in as it was pretty much fully compressed already. This resulted in a more messy finish.

Had to grind 5 notches coarser and 2 more would be ideal.

I would reach for 58:46 for 14/15g shots and stick with up to 10g on this.

prezes nice one, thanks for testing that. Seems 14g is pushing it, which is what it advertises for the single basket but like you said probably best to stick with the double and dose down.

dang2484 don’t get me wrong as you can still get 14g in there and pull a great shot but I would personally use the 58:46 for this dose.

I suppose if I wanted a single it’s probably better than my la mazocco single basket. So might be worth getting at some point.

It’d also help me reduce my caffeine intake, which isn’t a bit thing! 😂
