I was absolutely staggered to learn that Carbon Di-oxide makes up 0.04% of the earths atmosphere. I was even more staggered to learn of that 0.04%, 11% is man made.

Nitrogen tyre inflation £3.60 per tyre near me….absolute rip off, it should only be £1.08, as my tyres already got 70% Nitrogen in them….guy didn’t see it my way though.

RickO88 The only factor I can think of is reduced oxidisation of metal surfaces with tubeless tyres, whether this extends wheel life or just makes tyre removal easier, I wouldn’t know.

We don’t always do things because there is a point to them, we often do things because we like to, or follow the advice of someone who claims to know better :-)

It helps because the Nitrogen atom is larger than the oxygen one….and goes through the rubber less easily.

Going back to CO2 goes those percentages seem to be false. The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) supposes that we are responsible for 33% of the CO2 in the atmosphere, so a 50% increase compared to the baseline.

dfk41 Depending on what we’re talking about fractions of a % are meaningful. E.g. good boiler water is recommended to be 0.04% to 0.06% Alkalinity as CaCO3. A total of 0.02% would be a noticable change, as would 0.099% total. So context is important.

Filter coffee is typically about 1.5% coffee, of which about 5% is caffeine (for Arabica), so in the region of 0.075% of the drink is caffeine - hands up who drinks decaf and still thinks that 0.075% is meaningless, or that half caf & decaf are the same?

I would imagine in the fullness of time the % amount of O2 in the trye after repeated top ups is pretty small….and mathematically tending toward 0%, but of course will never get there, as each top up contains 22% Oxygen..

Yes, but as air is 78% nitrogen it can’t be worth the time, cost and effort. If your tyres lose air presumably the oxygen is what escapes then more air in which is 78% nitrogen. Won’t the gas in the tyre be mostly nitrogen as time goes by?

MWJB Apparently not, other than for emergency inflation - diffuses through rubber faster than air.
