The most recent thing that the postman actually brought is a ¼″ push fit connector; I’m going to take a leaf out of your book and fit a drain valve to the service boiler, as we are a cappuccino-heavy household.

make sure you get the right type of thread, which I think is BSP non taper.

DavecUK Thanks - I got the same valve (I think) that @LMSC has fitted to his; it’s an NPT thread. I’ll be very cautious threading it in.

CoyoteOldMan it’s not meant to fit, if you insist on installing, plenty of PTFE, don’t go in too far or tight and don’t remove it unless you have to.

Or get BSP non taper, if u can find one.

LMSC Will do, as soon as I figure out which one fits best - both will come in next week, with the machine, and I’ll fit the valve before I commission it (good opportunity to empty the boiler(s) of whatever has been in there from testing).

The “good” thing about a parts-only warranty is that I’m definitely not worried about taking it apart. Maybe I should be…

CoyoteOldMan test fit with no PTFE, don’t force anything….see how it feels. Plenty of room in a production Evo, easy to reach everything. Just don’t bend the thermal sensor wires about.

I have no idea how I managed to fit the NPT threaded valve for that. We never knew the that thread was wrong, until some one told us! I have tightened it fully with plenty of PTFE tapes. I haven’t seen any leak on the bottom plate or on the kitchen top. It looks all good and have no plans of touching it, unless required.

If mounted at the centre. the ¼” would touch one of sensors. I did give the valve a little clearance by gently adjusting the sensor a little. So, be careful if you are going to use the centre valve. Please try and take one of the valves around the edges.

LMSC The threads are close, but not the same, if it doesn’t leak it won’t leak, so no point removing it until/ if the valve itself fails.

I wish the espresso machine vworld had gone metric, completely and not partially!

Particularly if the valve is tapered, and has plenty of PTFE, it may well hold. NPT specs for ¼″ are 18 TPI and BSP is at 19 TPI, so it will tend to jam quite quickly.

Thanks for the tips on fitting; I think the BSP valve I found is a little smaller (shorter) - as soon as everything turns up I’ll take photos and post on the Evo thread.

This came through today (drain valve). Unfortunately it’s wrong (“parallel” my arschloch)… which is why I’m not posting info about the supplier yet. If they can supply the correct part, all shall be revealed.

CoyoteOldMan You can use it, if you don’t do it up too tight and use enough PTFE of course. But yes, it doesn’t seem to meet the description does it.
