I have a Quickmill Verona 2B with an excellent rotary pump. It’s 12 years old and has worked perfectly. Recently however, the pump motor began to make a quieter than normal noise and stopped pumping water. Was intermittent for a while, then one day it would not pump on turn on when the machine was calling for topping up the boiler and so the GICAR control unit would not start the machine heating.
I feared an expensive repair or new motor.
However, it turned out that the motor start capacitor was failing. When I took it out, it measured 2.5 mF when its spec was 6.3 mF. A £6.86 Ducati replacement from Amazon was fitted (easy once you get the case panels off) and Hey Presto normal service resumed!
For anyone like me who does not know how to get the case panels off the Verona, here is an excellent YT vid on how to do it -
This repair would probably apply to any machine with a rotary pump.
