So after this morning’s unintentional exercise I just made another

I did not pull the lever. I ground the coffee same as this morning which is a full 0.4 coarser (a lot) than required but same as the current rave offering.
I upped the pre-infusion to three bars and just used the “pump” actuator lever instead of the main lever letting it run, 21 g in 60 g out. I did not get an exact time but I’m guessing 20 odd seconds
Maybe I will finish the bag off like this!!

Does it fall as a Turbo flat white for you? It still can’t beat my super turbo lasting 10s. That shot was super delicious! 😋🥰

This morning’s Luz Helena Salazar was 2 cups brewed on the Aromaboy, one with a V60 01 and Moccamaster paper, the other with Fellow Stagg X with Kalita 155 paper. Both cones preheated before brewing.

12.5g coffee (67 on Niche Zero), 185g water. Both cups had good sweetness and intensity, very enjoyable. The Stagg X brew was the first where I could detect something towards the cherry note.

Niche Zero 67 - 13% at 400Kruve for 12.5:185g brews.

Adrianmsmith I think my dislike is down to the taste that comes from the fermented process This coffee goes through.

I’ve not yet Tried a honey processed coffee whether it be from rave or anywhere else that I dislike and I’ve also stated there may be some psychology involved!!

Maybe, but maybe not. Honeys are very often like ‘clean naturals’ for me. Fruity, but without the funky booziness.

MWJB Ok. Thank you. I always brew at 12%. Does it make a difference - yield n taste based on your experience?

LMSC I have had brews with a similar score from 65.5 to 68.5 on the Zero, hence I settled in the middle :-)

Given that I can go a tad coarser & that I’d look at that 13% as +/-1% so 12% should work.

I haven’t sifted any other settings, or grinders for Aromaboy brews yet, I was going to do that next week.

MWJB I am currently doing 12% on the Aromaboy as the switch. I add a gram more to get the extra strength. I did try 15% initially, but it wasn’t pleasant to drink.

LMSC Interesting, so what’s the regime with the Switch? No issues with the hotplate under the Switch?

MWJB This is just an experiment. A compact stainless steel goes on top of the hot plate and the switch on top. One could also keep a compact dessert bowl to avoid the silicone base coming in contact with the hot plate. The switch stays closed through though as of now.

I haven’t brewed more than a few bags yet - like decafs and a couple like the Zennor Loma 777. I thought the cups were cleaner and smoother. I am looking for a wider and shorter cup to try the Hybrid. Early days, Tbh.

I still use the V60 01.

Finally managed to get the Graph basket out for the Luz H Salazar.

My OG best shot was 12 seconds in my 58mm basket, I went a notch courser with the Graph, 17.8g dose and got 34g out in 33 seconds. Massive lime sweetness again, probably more rounded than my OG shot but maybe its more that im more accustomed to the flavor now. Really enjoying it.

Been using the Switch all week and my favourite cups have been more course a grind and finishing around 245 using the foundry method.

Should hopefully be starting the Finca Matilde by sunday. Its been a good week.

Turbo this morning for the Luz … well hello sweetness goodbye bitter notes !! 😍

I would never normally consider a “heavy” coffee like this for turbo and have been enjoying it with shorter ratios but although the first taste is really interesting it was spoilt by a bitter aftertaste I couldn’t get rid of.

I pulled 60g in 12 secs ( blink and you miss it😆) at about 5 bar. It tastes boozy and spicy but with a nice sharp acidity with all the bitter aftertaste gone. It still had a nice thick body surprisingly, not light or wishy washy in any way.

I thought until recently a turbo was a sticker on the back or an xr2 the lads used to drive 😎

Discovered a couple of days ago by grinding courserer by accident!!

It goes back well before Lance, it was based on a paper by CH Hendon, on how to achieve ‘barista acceptable coffee extractions’, whilst saving coffee.

Faster shots have been around forever.

I don’t really understand the trend of attaching silly names to shots & brews. People seem to get hung up on the name, whether they are doing the thing, or not.

Agree about the silly names and it puts people (me) off!!

Same with all these silly names for different shots thet i cant be bothered to google every time someone comes up with them . What is a cortado!

Why not say
espresso shot 1:2 then dilute 1:3 with water and then 1:1 with milk. May be more long winded but says exactly what it is . the stupid shot names mean nothing without a google!

Now i know its not just a Lance invention i vill take it more seriously. I thought it was a more clicks more money thing
