IKAPE Convex Basket

Just wanted to share my experience- I got the IKAPE Convex Basket on a whim on the suspicion that it would be a bunch of nonsense and I have been proved wrong- the basket gives me lovely goopy espresso. It works really well for medium roast coffees and I think really enhances the sweetness.

I didn’t try step down baskets as it seemed a bit too much faff - but maybe it is a similar experience?

I am having to grind about 10 dots courser on my Niche Zero to (23-25) for a 17g dose.

I tried it on some light roast coffee and wouldn’t recommend it - I use my VST or IMS for that. My only other note is that it is not magnetic which is very slightly irritating.

PC202 why don’'t you like it for light roast?
Been using it for a while and quite like it, but I mainly drink light to medium light. Don’t think I can tell it apart from VST basket, but never really tried them side by side

Thanks for posting this. I’ve never used a convex basket but use the Graph and a Stepdown which I think are very good.

I’m a real fan of restricted baskets and even reduced flow baskets . I have a Flair 58 low flow chamfered basket and this is such a good basket, obviously not as extreme as the proper convex but a good middle ground, easier to knock out and my go to for decafs.

I tend to go from the Pullman to the Flair low flow on one side and then to the Stepdown and Graph on the other . I enjoy them all, they all bring something different.

delta76 I just found for the lighter ones it didn’t make them ‘shine’ in the same way.

I tend to pull the lighter beans fast on a long ratio. My experience is that is that the convex makes really good traditional espresso rather than longer ‘modern’ shots.

I did not get on with the Graph, but having owned an Evo Leva with a 53mm group, I would still be interested in something that went 58mm to 52/3 mm baskets. The Ikape looks interesting but again it goes down to 32mm….is anyone aware of something that offers 58 to 52/3mm?
