At what point does price point influence cup quality?

MWJB i thought we were talking about espresso. NZ is not very good filter grinder and the bar is quite low for filter. espresso in other hand needs a different kind of beast.

delta76 Sorry, no this thread is focused on brewed coffee, obviously for espresso there are further requirements a grinder needs in terms of being able to grind in the fine range (a challenge for cheaper electric grinders) and resolution of settings/step intervals.

The Niche Zero is a very capable brew grinder, I suspect the reputation it has acquired as not being good at filter is more down to influencers with ‘finger trouble’.

Only in a straight line though, which few motor races are! I had a friend back in the 70’s who rallied a really well prepared Mk 1 Escort but he could not afford a decent engine so used a bog standard 1100cc. He never came last

MWJB right, my bad, read it too fast and skipped “brewing”
If yes then (most of ) my comments have been invalidated. I think the breaking point is about £300 for Ode 2. You need to spend around £1000 to get noticeable “better” grinder for brewer.

MWJB Kruve 4 grinders Aromaboy

Have a look at the data here, ask any questions and I’ll do my best to answer what I can.

A little more detail added to the Kruve data, see 4th tab, ‘Kruve 4,9,11,1400’.

Nothing surprising, Hario had the widest distribution, Niche in the middle, Ode narrowest. The average grind size is essentially the same for these three (approx 900 Kruve), but when adjusting the De Longhi, I accidentally pulled out the top burr and the slop in adjustment means I don’t have enough confidence I can return it to the same setting to sift the 900 & 1100 Kruve.

Don’t you record the setting on your excel? I assume you would know the grind size (grind mark)? If yes, would that not be enough, unless you meant configuration (zero point)?

LMSC Yes it was setting “3” but if you wiggle the knob enough, the play means it can become setting “2” (poor

tolerances). the other grinders have not been moved, between brewing & sifting.
