jrling If nothing else, it would be a cheap and relatively easy way to test whether RO water taste is acceptable for drinking water, as well as using in my espresso machine
RODI water has essentially nothing in it, (down to the part per million), remineralised fine for espresso machines, the argument as to whether you should drink 0TDS water continues…
RODI will produce water of a higher purity than Waterdrop, because of the DI (demineralisation/de-ionising) filter, RO by itself does not generally produce 0TDS water. This system is unlikely to do so too, until flushed through somewhat and only when run at sufficient pressure.
The pre & post filters are disposable push fit, rather than filter cartridges held in a casing, so it may hold less water in the system compared to a larger pumped system but, you want to be sure that you are flushing through the whole system frequently (achieved in normal use by using 10L+, to make sure that water isn’t sitting for so long that microbiological build up occurs, leading to contamination.
Bacterial risk is not avoided by plumbing in, in fact it is more likely to increase due to poor drain saddle placement and under-use. The pre filters take out chlorine, leaving the increased possibility of microbiological build up in any standing water in the system.
Waterdrop, Osmio Zero, or similar counter-top systems would be better for 2.5L/day usage.
Many people don’t need RO levels of reduction, so weigh up what you have coming through the tap, vs targets for boilers.
