dfk41 it’s a shame he didn’t mention that extraction is also affected by flow rate (as well as temperature and, less predictably, pressure). If he had done that he wouldn’t have locked himself so deeply into contact time.

thats not a turbo shot,

thats using a basket to slow the speed of the coffee down into something he likes to drink,,,,

the point of a turbo shot is it pisses right through the puck quicker than a brit with deli belly

I just saw the video. Perplexing suggestion but I’ll definitely give it a go with the stock ECM single basket and a light roast coffee I have here torturing myself every time in my attempt to extract something decent as espresso.. I’ll report back.

The video is anything but about turbo shots. Turbo shots are 16 - 18s. The original article here. The full paper here. This is about a way to use coarse grinding but get the same output within 30s, that’s the typical espresso timing.

people on youtube have to stay relevent to get the monies

hes basically pulled a fast turbo gone blerk not nice, then found a way to slow the shot down to traditional times and pressure

the whole point is to max flow out not pressure, so for me on the decent i max flow 7to8mls while the pressure is 3bars

i think its more he just doesnt like the turbo shot or what his coffees produce with it and i get that, not every coffee does well,
