Well, I made a brew yesterday and it was a Turkish Delight (full of eastern promise). I tightened up the grind as the pour was 20 seconds or so too quick. This mornings effort also ran about 15 seconds too quick but was very tasty and fruity, so I look forwards to exploring further.

I am enjoying these although not yet quite nailed on! The draw seems too fast. 250mls took approximately 2.55 to empty the resevoir and another 20 seconds or so to drain through. I have tightened the grind up on the Zero from the right hinge to 50. Here is a photo. Do I need to keep on tightening?

I wouldn’t keep tightening based on the dry bed time. The dwell time between last water in and dry bed naturally varies by bean, it doesn’t indicate extraction, nor remedial changes by itself. 10 marks on a Niche Zero isn’t the kind of range that is ‘tweaking’ for brewed, it’s more like the kind of change you’d use for a different brewer, or a very large change in brew size.

For 330ml water the average dwell time was 26 seconds, but from 10-45.
For 186ml water the average dwell time was 25 seconds, but from 16-43.

All my best brews on the Aromaboy have been in a 5-6 mark range, on the Niche Zero, for a given brew size.

I’d be more driven by changes in the cup. Flat/muddy/silty mouthfeel go coarser. Tangy/unripe/weak go finer.

MWJB Many thanks MArk. It does seem that tightening the grind does not seem to affect draw down time. So I will concentrate on taste and mouthfeel. I am still a beginner! Definitely no silt though
